How does it compare for yield to the spring wheat? Here in Ontario there is little spring wheat grown because of poorer yields although the price can be very good. Winter wheat accounts for 90% at least and we do have both hard and soft red varieties as well as the traditional soft whites. Winter wheat yields at least double in our climate, provides a good rotation, spreads out workload, and keeps the ground covered over winter. There is also a very good market for the straw in my area because there are so many fancy horse farms in the area... mostly race horses now.
