HD 6 Allis Chalmers crawler
Once a popular in this area in the 60's, this HD6 was a
popular tractor along with the D4d Cat for medium sized
farmers. Soon the Stieger and other articulated tractors
took over tractor sales and farms kept getting bigger too.
In drier areas and here to too, the Allis Chalmers HD11 was
a popular tractor for bigger farms as was the Cat D5. IH
locally started selling 4156's in less hilly country and
tractors such as the 1256 and 1456 with front wheel drive
with extra large front tires and the bigger rear wheels
until many took on the Steiger line in the early 70's
Re: HD 6 Allis Chalmers crawler
The wet soil this year and deep setting has made this disc a
hard pull this time. Usually the ground is quit dry and easy
pulling. Once all pea ground was disced before planting.

Where are you located redpainter? You should have a small
museum set up. Looks like you are having a good time with
the old equipment. I've been enjoying your pictures.

Don, we're in north Idaho next to Washington south of
Moscow, Idaho. When this old stuff runs, it can be kind of
fun, but when it doesn't it can be frustrating. Don't know
how many more years we'll be able to survive being a small
operator. I really like the lifestyle as I once worked
behind a desk and wouldn't like to go back to that when I
can be my own boss.
