Re: JIMS BEAST 13
It’s not a Big Bud. It’s a Steiger. It looks like it is
probably an ST-325 Panther with the 3406 Cat motor circa
1978-1982. We had one just like it in the 80’s. It could
pull past those Ford FW-60s (with 903 Cummins power) like
they were sitting still.

Re: JIMS BEAST 13
Hey John,

Didn't Ford contract w/Steiger to build the FW 4wds? Just
curious.:-D

Re: JIMS BEAST 13
That’s right Lance, Steiger did build the Ford 4 wheel
drives but the ones I am familiar with all have the Cummins
engine. A guy down the road from us had an FW-60 with the
Cummins 903 in it and it was rated at 335hp as opposed to
the 325hp (Cat 3406) rating of the Steiger but I personally
outpulled that Ford on a several occasions when he would
help us or we would help him. Those big Fords were good
tractors but that Cat -powered Panther of ours was a man.

Re: JIMS BEAST 13
Hi John,

I like the old Steigers myself. But I guess other farmers in
our area don't like them.:-\ My uncle has a Case IH Steiger
9250, but I don't know anyone who ones on the old big green
ones. Do you still own your Steiger? Just curious.

Re: JIMS BEAST 13
Hey Lance. No we don’t own our Steiger anymore. In the
mid-eighties we had to downsize and in the process we sold
our Steiger, our Deere 8630, one of our 4020s and a Deere
6600 combine along with most of our big tillage equipment.
We still own a stable of Deeres however including a 4010, a
4020, a 4430, a 4440, two 6030’s and a 6620 combine. I have
somewhere in the neighborhood of 4500 hours on our 4440
alone...all between 1979 and 1989! My father still farms but
I now own and operate a small advertising and graphic design
business but I still get to get dirty in my spare time (see
pic). Thanks for your interest. Do you farm these days?
Later, John.

Hey Jim. You guessed right, I’m from Alabama (U.S.A.). I
really enjoy looking at all your pictures. Keep them coming.

Re: JIMS BEAST 13
Hi John,

I've seen your photos on here, and I like your tractors! I'm
a fan of older John Deere's, but I don't really like their
newer machines. ALl their tractors through the 60 series are
awesome. I work w/my uncle every once in awhile on his farm,
but right now I am too busy w/college to help him out. He
uses mainly Case Ih, and that's probably my preferred brand
of tractor. Hopefully I will have my own farm someday. Oh
yeah, good luck w/your business!;-)

Re: JIMS BEAST 13
Jim,

if you are signed in when you post the pix they should
automatically go into your album. I will see if I can
identify the ones you have already posted and move them in
for you as well.

The site is getting visited by some 2000 visitors per day at
the moment who download over 2GB of files daily.
Unfortunately this massive ramp up in traffic is causing me
a few problems with my connection. Not really sure how I am
going to handle it at the moment.

Re: JIMS BEAST 13
Jim, I have moved those that I reckon are yours. I have
probably missed a bunch (there are a lot of posts under the
name 'Jim').

Drop me an email with the numbers of those photos that are
yours that I haven't moved into your album...

best,

Stu
