Stu, what programs do you use making this site?
Hi Stu,

I suppose you are programming the ASP scripts for this site
all by yourself. I have been searching the web for a good
script builder program, but havent seen anything useful.

May i ask you what programs do you use?
Paintshop pro for the GFX and Homesite or Dreamweaver for
the HTML scripts?

I really like to have some advice on how to program these
ASP scripts, i want to make my own scripts because i am
getting sick of all the spam pop-up ads i get when using the
Bravenet forum, classifieds and guestbook on my site.
Can you recommend a script builder program, or a tutorial?
Do these script builder programs exist at all, or do you
need to program it manually in Windows Notepad???

Thanks, Renze

Hi Renze,

It's a big topic and not easy to cover in a short space.
Fortunately there are many tutorials online to help you get
started. More importantly there are plenty of downloadable
code snippets that often do exactly what you want or require
only minor modifications. Use google.com to find places like
planet-source-code.com (there are many, many others).

I use a mish-mash of different tools when coding. Originally
it was all notebook but I do a lot now in Visual Interdev.
There are plenty of freeware editors available on the net as
well.

One thing you might want to consider. If I was starting all
over I'd probably go with Linux and PHP rather than MS and
ASP. If I get annoyed enough with the various failings of
microsoft I might still!
There's no manual for this stuff if you're just a tinkerer
like me. Just get in, have a go, and see where it leads...

best,

Stu

P.S. For the graphics I generally use paintshop pro. It's
good and relatively cheap. I haven't looked around in a
while though - there may be better stuff available...

Thanks a lot !!

I use Paintshop Pro 6 and Homesite 4.5
Homesite has the advantage, that you can easily modify the
source code if something doesn't start working. (Frontpage
is sh*t)

The script languages are really a jungle if you havent took
the time to take knowledge of them. I will do some searches
on the web for the program you named.

I am also concidering to go with Linux. My mate is also a
Linux enthusiast, he gave me the CD's but i dont want to
erase my hard disk as long as it's stil running.

Thanks, Renze

Hi Stu,

I am working on a guestbook, forum and classifieds for my
site, with downloaded freeware scripts.

I am also looking for a photo gallery script, i can run PHP
and have a database on my new hosting server.
Do you know where i can download one of these scripts?
I'd like to use one like farmphoto, but i do not need all
the features farmphoto has.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Renze

Hi Renze,

I can't help you with PHP as I am all ASP. I bet there are
some good freeware PHP scripts out there though for
uploading photos. You probably already know the good coder
hangouts if you have downloaded some scripts already. Just
make sure you start simple. You can add stuff over time in
increments. There is a lot I need to do to farmphoto but
it's just a slow process doing stuff when you can...

Thanks, Stu...

I'll try AstaLaVista....
Fortunately, CGI and Perl is much like the same as Qbasic
programming. I used to do quite some Qbasic proggies,
imitating the noise of my brother's car, and the such..

What we used to do at school, is create a program, which
lets the PC-speaker produce an annoying, high-pitched tone.
Then we created an infinite loop (let it count the times it
has run the loop, and let it stop when the number is -1 :-P
) ;-)
