Chisel Chopper
A Cat Challenger 65B on Kortge Farms east of The Dalles
pulling a Calkins chisel-chopper. This tool combines a
chisel plow with paddles fore & aft that help to break up
the stubble residue. This field will be fallowed until
this fall, when it will be seeded to winter wheat. Mt. Hood
looks down on a beautiful spring morning. Every farmer in
the county would gladly trade all of this sun for some
badly needed rain. :-( It's gonna be a skinny harvest if
it doesn't come soon. :-\
Re: Chisel Chopper
A little different angle that shows the paddles at the back
of the tool.
Re: Chisel Chopper
One of the neighbors drops by to make sure this field is
being worked correctly. ;-) Hard to have any secrets
( skips in the drilling, crooked rows, etc) with this
guy swooping around.
Re: Chisel Chopper
Pulling up out of one draw back to the top of the ridge.
Re: Chisel Chopper
Hey John down here in Louisiana looks like we never see the
sun for more than a couple of days at a time caught a bunch
of winter rain worked some rice ground in the water an
wanted to plant about 200ac with the drill got in the field
monday late finished 55ac tuesday morning weather man said
maybe 1/2 in of rain well that turned into 3 1/2 inches
closed the levees an will work it wet still may try to drill
the last 150ac, planted 200ac wed. 38 degrees but it's under
the water, drained water Fri. in the 70's now, will plant
another 300ac mid holy week, nobody here excited with $12.00
bbls rice :-\
Re: Chisel Chopper
Yo Matt! Been cold here too this past week after temps
in the 70's the week before. Sure does make the cherry
farmers here nervous. :-\ Doing a little spring work and
waiting for some rain. If you can spare any, send it on up!
Re: Chisel Chopper
hey john, does that guy really looks if the work is done
correctly :-\
Ik don't understand why, why should anybody skip some
drilling or something??
