Gording01,
Harvest starts in the southern states as early as the middle
of May and continues until late August the farther north you
travel in Central America.

The farmer I was cutting with retired this year. All the
equipment (and then some) that you have seen in this post
will be auctioned off Jan. '06.

Re: Kansas wheat harvest 2005
Okay - Thanks :-)
So are you retireing too or are you just gonna find some
other farmer to work for next harvest?
Do you have contractors that drive from one farm to the
other, doing the harvest overthere?
Was thinkin about trying to get a job at one of those, if
possible ;-)

Re: Kansas wheat harvest 2005
No, I am not retiring. I will be helping another farmer
next year. Yes, there are "contractors" that travel around
cutting wheat. What I would recommend you do is search the
web using "custom wheat harvest" as your search criteria.
That should give you a place to start looking for employment
if/when you do make it to the states.

Re: Kansas wheat harvest 2005
I haven't heard the "official" total, but I suspect it will
be between 43-48 bu./ac. (I think that converts to 2.70 to
3.01 tons/hectare)

Re: Kansas wheat harvest 2005
Bud,
This gentleman grew 2400 acres of wheat every year.
However, he is retiring this year and will be giving up his
leased acres and leasing the ground he owns to a local high
school graduate who is wanting to start farming with his
family.
