Stuck 4920
June 29 05 Trying to spray some muck and the sprayer went
down. Just really stuck on the left side. Our 380 horse cat
would just snap our biggest chains and spin out. I was stuck
at 4:30 in the afternoon, we got it out at 4 in the morning!
It finally took a wrecker and another cat to get it. After
about the 2 nd pull it was burried on both sides down to the
frame. We did not tear anything up thank goodness! We
thought we were gonna be light and fast enough to spray it,
but we was'nt! We will try to spray that muck with our
sprayer NO MORE!

Re: Stuck 4920
That really is some ugly soil :-P
Wasn't the sprayer spinning or did it 'sank' unexpected?

take care,

Re: Stuck 4920
hey,
you got it realy stuck there but i don`t understand why the
cat couldn't get it out there. because a cat is pretty
strong on the tracks.
and how many acres do you guys have to have a nice sprayer
like this?

Re: Stuck 4920
Niek and Marien,
The tires on the left started to spin a little then the
sprayer recognized something wrong and automatically
de-rated the hydrostatic drive. That de-rating is what
caused us all the trouble of getting unstuck! There is an
override to the de-rating but it really lacks any wheel
motor tourqe to pull, so we went deeper in the muck. We had
to pull it about 25 feet while it was sitting down on the
frame, then it started to come up on some solid ground. We
were very scared of pulling it apart or breaking a wheel
assembly off! We had alot of power on the cables and chains
so we were VERY carefull. I shoveled quite alot that night.
It really looked ugly sittin down on the frame, with only
about a foot of the tall tires above ground. It was dark and
I was gettin worried that is when the picture takin
ceased!:-( The cats have plenty of power but would only dig
themselves into holes. That muck is really wierd soil!
Machines can actually sink and dissappear in this soil! The
Sprayer normally covers about 20,000 acres a year, the only
thing on the farm that pays for itself. It is an awesome
machine when not stuck!
Take care,
Chris

Re: Stuck 4920
He could be spraying... I assume that the spraying booms
just bent when they hit something? And that they have been
fold up before putting the CAT for it?

Re: Stuck 4920
We were spraying right up until it stopped moving! Then
folded the booms imediatly to keep from tearing them up! The
solution tank had about 150 gallon of chemical. The tank
holds 1200 gallons.

Re: Stuck 4920
Hey Chris, you really should know better then to go enter a
mud hole with a sprayer that weighs 30,000lbs! lol
I got ours stuck 2 weeks ago in a mudhole I always went thru
with the 4710 with no problems. Hate all this computer crap
they put on them. If it wouldn't have derated I might have
made it thru it. Took a 8420 with duals about 3 tries to
pull it out. This was in the middle of a cotton field. Sure
made a mess! Sorry, no pictures.
