11 combines and Kinze grain cart
I saw these guys harvest a full section (+/- 640 acres) in 3
1/2 hours. If I was not there to see it I would not have
believed it! They were running around 5mph with 36' heads.

Photo taken by Phil in South Dakota, July 2005.

It was 108F for a high on the day I took these photos, the
heat haze was apparent in this one !

Re: 11 combines and Kinze grain cart
Took this photo of 4 combines and a grain cart on another
farm in SD. These are equipped with 30' air reel heads and
Redekop straw choppers. The choppers do a great job chopping
and spreading residue. This 160 acre field averaged 96 bu/ac
!

Re: CAT 590R and stripper header
Took this photo too in SD. It was a 590R and a 32'
Shelbourne Reynolds stripper header.

Another group of 11 combines in SD, these are a different
group to the other 11 I attached a photo of earlier. These
only had 30' platforms.

Unloading a 9760 into the Kinze 1050 cart.

Unloading into a 1050 Kinze grain cart pulled by a 8420 with
ILS suspension. The suspension really made a big improvement
to ride quality.

8420 heading to the trucks, wide open. He was unfolding the
auger ready to unload.

Unloading into trucks. They were constantly arriving empty
and leaving full !

Re: 11 combines and Kinze grain cart
Wow, that is impressive! With 36ft. heads, running 5
mi/hr., in 96 bu wheat each combine is threshing 34.6
bu/min. At that rate it would take a little more than 10
minutes for each machine (assuming they are at least 9760s
with extensions) to thresh a hopper full. If all 11
machines were cutting at that rate, that would mean they
were cutting 380.6 bu/min. That would more than fill a semi
every 2 minutes. With 9 semi trucks, that would only afford
each truck 18 minutes to get loaded, make it to the
elevator, unload and return to the field. I would have
liked to have seen that!

Re: 11 combines and Kinze grain cart
DirtDr, the wheat that averaged 96bu/ac was in a different
field than the one with 11 combines. I should have separated
the photos by yield, it would have been clearer!

Re: 11 combines and Kinze grain cart
i know this is an old post but the only time we could run
over 5 MPH last summer was when we harvested wheat under 20
BPA i find it hard to believe that there was that much of a
diference between fields in the same area. we did run over 6
MPH in some areas but that was when we were running though
10 BPA wheat in eastern Texas. in North Dakota we were
running 9760's about 3 MPH in 70 BPA wheat
