Corn Silage Harvesting 2005
Harvesting Corn silage is done for this year so now I have
some time to post a few pics I took. We did 190 acres this
year, yields were very good 22+ tons/acre.
I'll start with the first one I took. This is our JD 7210
with a rented dumptrailer and a Claas 830 harvester barely
visible behind the corn. The harvester is owned by Claussen

hun kiepers.
Re: Corn Silage Harvesting 2005
On Monday and early tuesday I was driving with this
combination. Our NH TM140 and a Veenhuis dumptrailer we
imported years ago.

Waiting on my turn...

Wachten op mijn beurt.
Re: Corn Silage Harvesting 2005
The 3rd and last combination was this Fendt 924 with a
custom made dumptrailer. This one is owned by Claussen

Dit is de derde an laatste combinatie. Een Fendt 924 en
grote custome-made kieper. Deze was van de loonwerker.
Re: Corn Silage Harvesting 2005
Most of tuesday and all day on wednesday I spent on this
tractor. Our JD 8120 with Quicke 990 loader. This was the
first time I was packing with this tractor and I was very
impressed with the whole unit. Much better than the 7710 it

Re: Corn Silage Harvesting 2005
We also used our JD 544H to pack at the same time.

andere silo.
Re: Corn Silage Harvesting 2005
Nice pictures. Have you ever heard how many acres Claussens
will harvest in a year? Most have started in this area but
not going at it hard.

Take care,

Re: Corn Silage Harvesting 2005
This picture is from this morning. We fisnished last night
around midnight, but we still needed to pack and shape the
pile a little better.

Re: Corn Silage Harvesting 2005
I don't know how many acres claussens are doing in total,
hard to tell anyway, some farmers change their mind the very
last moment. All 3 harvesters were going though.
Re: Corn Silage Harvesting 2005
Looking back.

side of the 8120
Re: Corn Silage Harvesting 2005
Hey Gerard,

Sweet Pics!! Not that big of a JD fan, but the 8120 is an
AWESOME looking machine!! Those tires make it look all that
much better!!

Thay bunker holds one impressive pile!! Qeustion? How much
of last years harvest did you have left in that bunker
before you started harvest?

Thanks for the pics!!

Take care,

Re: Corn Silage Harvesting 2005
That bunker was empty. We always fill 2 bunks with corn. one
that is approx 26 feet wide, and that one is 65 feet wide,
both are 132ft long. we fill that small bunk as full as
possible, and then it should last 3 months. The big one has
to hold 9 months. It has never been this full, but we'll use

Right now we have about 2 months of feed left in last years
small bunker (different one) and when it is empty we will
start feeding from the big one. We don't want to feed any
unfermented corn silage so all the corn should go into empty
bunk silos and we keep feeding from another. That leaves us
with a small bunksilo that is empty all winter (stores
snowpiles), but first cut will go into that and first cut
should mostly be fed by the time corn comes off.

I think that loader makes the 8120 look a lot more bulkier,
maybe appear stronger...

BTW, what tractors do you like?
Re: Corn Silage Harvesting 2005
Re: Corn Silage Harvesting 2005
nice pics gerard.
Re: Corn Silage Harvesting 2005
Hey Gerard,

I agree. The loader makes the 8120 look bulkier, alot
stronger, and those beefy tires seem to really add to the
apperance of it!! An awesome looking machine to say the
least!! I love MF, there my favourite!! I alos like NH,
they make some real nice tractors too!! Fiat/Hesston, Deutz,
After seeing pics of your 8120, I have taken a liking to
that XX20 series from JD. You guys did an excellent job of "
Dressing " that 8120 up when you ordered it. I am sure it
was for function, and not form when you ordered it, but I am
sure it works as good as it looks!!

If you get a chance, could you grab some more plowing pics
for us?

Thanks & Take care.
