Pumpkinseed-harvest in Styria the southeast region of
Austria. The pumpkinseed is used to produce Pumpkinseed-oil,
whitch is used for salad dressing. This year we harvested
650 kilogrammes per hectare. Oil pumpkins are a special
variant of the large group of pumpkins. It is a yellow green
pumpkin with shiny dark green seeds inside an orange yellow
fruit pulp. The seeds have no shell, so they could be easely
used directly after drying without no work. The pumpkin is
ripening in the fall between september and october. After
harvesting, the seeds will be dried and stored till the
pressing time. Fresh seeds don't give oil. The fresh seeds
will be washed and then we dry the seeds and gently heats
them to 60 degrees Celsius and roast them for some minutes.
The crashed warm seeds will be pressed with high pressure.
