Macdons? who much land do you have ? you must have lots if
you need 5 swthers :-)
Re: 4 Macdons and a Deere
The Macdons did all of the work. The John Deere was
basically in the way all of the time. The Macdons would
swath the grass very cleanly at about twice the speed of the
3830 which would leave the grass very rugged. What this is
a picture of is a family friend and his Dad that I helped
swath bluegrass. They have about 1500 acres and own three
of the Macdons. The other Mac and Jd were other farmers
that joined with them to get their crops cut quickly. When
bluegrass is ready to be swathed it has to be cut in about
24-48 hours or it will shatter out. That is why some
farmers up here combine operations so when they have grass
ready it can come down. The total acres these cut was
around 3500 and it was cut in about 7-9 days. Most days we
were swathing an acre a minute. Since this picture last
year my friend and the other farmers split up the group.
This year and we cut his 1500 with two Macdon but they went
to 21ft headers. We cut that amount in about 6 1/2 days.
Anyhow all I will say is that a Macdon is the greatest
swather ever made!!!
