Silage 2005
Here are some pics of forage harvesting on the farm I was
working on over the summer. Forager is a John Deere 7400,
tractors in the pictures include:

Massey Ferguson 6480
Massey Ferguson 6290 Excel
Massey Ferguson 6270
Massey Ferguson 6150
New Holland TS115 (on the clamp)
Case IH 5130 (on the rake)

They were hauling 6 miles from some far field as well that
day, had some extra help from :

Massey Ferguson 5465
Massey Ferguson 5455
Massey Ferguson 6480
John Deere 6920

I only got a chance to take a few pictures as I was milking
that afternoon. :-(

Hope you enjoy them,

Owain

The 6480 and 7400.

(I think the 6400's are lovely tractors) :-)

Re: Silage 2005
Ready to change trailers. Trailers in the UK seem to be much
smaller and simpler than many of the big European trailers.
I dont think many of them would fit into the old Welsh
farmyards.

The 7400 and 6480 again. It was a light crop so they were
flying through it !

Case 5130 on the Fella rake. Once again you can see the
light crop.

The farms Massey 6150 and trailer. It was only needed when
hauling from the far fields.

Re: Silage 2005
Nice picture Owain, but I'm not surprised that you need that
much tractor-trailer combinations if the trailers are that
small...
Also with that forage harvester and its capacity you better
use 4 trailers of 45 m3 DIN so you save at least on 4
peoples salaries...

OK, keep up the milking!

Re: Silage 2005
Thanks guys,
I have to say i really enjoy you album too Alan.
Particularly the MFs and your holsteins.

Padjakkers, I see what you mean about the trailers. I
dont know how many m3 they hold but they range from 10 to 14
tons in capacity. I think the main problem is that
agricultural vehicle combinations can only legaly weigh a
maximum of 24 tons in the UK. So this limits the size of the
trailers. Correct me if i'm wrong but i think this is the
case.

Re: Silage 2005
Hello Gareth,
Yeah its the Vale of Clwyd. The name of the farm I was
working on is Rhyd y Cilgwyn and its in the village of Rhewl
very near Rhuthin. The fields in the pictures are right on
the main road between Rhuthin and Denbigh. I dont actually
live in the vale. Our place is the about 5 miles from
Denbigh in the hills behind (village called Llannefydd) but
we do look down on the vale. Do you know the Vale of Clwyd
well? Where abouts are you from?

mf8140driver,

I'm not exactly sure what the difference is between the
6290 and 6290 Excel. But its basically that the Excel has
most the optional extra's as standard specification. Things
like from suspension, joystick control for the spool valves
and climate control. Their very nice tractors though.
