How I can grow cotton
I was always interested in corps who never seen in Germany.
A few days ago I saw a brach of cotton at a florist. Now I
selcted the seed and I will grow them in a flowerpot. I
think I have no problems with all the diseases and bugs but
who can give me tips how to run my cottenfield in the
flowerpot?

Re: How I can grow cotton
I was not shure if the cotton seed in my bought branch is
really germinable. So I made as germinating test between wet
newspaper as I usul do with wheat. And o wonder, after two
days they sproud roots. I planted them now fastly in a
flowerpot and lets wait how the sprouting seed is looking!?

Re: How I can grow cotton
Many thanks for your offer Jontiras,

as I started this thread I was not shure if my seed from my
bought cotton branch, really will germinate. And I named the
thread "How I can grow cotton", But germinating was now
problem as the second picture demonstrates. How fastly you
can get problems you see in my last picture with the snail
damage. The blue grain is to control the snails.

I think with lot of bugs and insects who are specialized to
cotten I will have no poblem here. I have the plants now in
our green house, but deep temperatures, down to the freezing
poin,t are predicted for the next days, so I think I should
put them back in the house.

What do you think what is the deepest temperatur cotton can
bear and what probelms can impede my project?

Greetings to Greece

Re: How I can grow cotton
look theo. the seed in second picture with the fibers around
it used before half century for seeding. now we use the blue
grain as you say firstly for precision drilling and second
the blue or red film around the seed is here to protect the
plant from snails and other stupid bugs. in all growing
stages the cotton plants it has to face a lot enemy like
whorms who makes holes in the nuts or flies who dryies the
leafes and then kill whole the plant. in a sum we do 5-6
sprays only for bug protection. the lower night temperature
for grow cotton i think is ~5-8 over the freezing point but
in Greece we don`t have temperature problems

Re: How I can grow cotton
Hi theo.In this stage cotton are very sensitive. That thing
in the little picture(I don`t know the right word) are
attacked from worms and fall down and if make a late
spraying you lose a big precentage of your yields.Do you
fertile that soil before you plant cotton?Do you give any
water to the plant?

Anyway i love cotton crop-plant because is like a human
being. It want a lots but give you a lots.............

Take care

Re: How I can grow cotton
Jontitas, many thanks for your advice. I think that all
this
bugs, insects and worms, who attack the the cotton wool
capsule, arn´t a problem here in Bavaria. I think more
problem have this crop with the 6 °C of the last night.

Now my cotton have flowers and let´s hope that they were
pollinated.

Re: How I can grow cotton
My cotton has grown very well. Unfortunately only from one
flower develloped a capsule. I think the reason is that
under the shade of all the tomatos and cucumbers the cotton
get to less sun in the greenhouse.

Re: How I can grow cotton
I am glad to see that your 'mad science' still continues Theo! The cotton plant is looking very contented. You have reached 'red flower' stage so your bolls should now start to fill out. Although cotton is a perennial plant all the crops I have seen have been treated as annuals (replanted each year) so I am watching your progress with interest.
