Crab Steer Steigers are rare and hard to be seen~~~~~
Re: Crab Steer Steiger
what is a crab steer tractor
Re: Crab Steer Steiger
It means the tractor does not articulate, but the axles
steering independantly. Crab steering means you turn the
steering so both axles point the same way and you drive
diagonally. This is good for sidehill work where the
implement tends to pull you down hill with gravity, with the
axles able to pull uphill, it keeps the tractor pulling
actually straight. A snow plow does the same thing in being
able to push into the line of plowing. //--//
Re: Crab Steer Steiger

Do u own an stx
Re: Crab Steer Steiger
I own several in 1/64th scale, and 8 in my dreams! but no,
no real ones:-(
Re: Crab Steer Steiger
I recently bought an stx 450 on the biggest wheels. i am
very impressed by it. it pulls a 60 foot bar no worries. So
if u r a farmer i think you should buy one.
Re: Crab Steer Steiger
We have a 4994 and I didn't realize they ever made a rigid
frame/crab steer Steiger
Re: Crab Steer Steiger
I have one question, since the merger between Case & Steiger
in 1986, how many models of crab-steer Steigers have been
designed ? I only heard of 2 such models,9240 rated at
240hp? and 9260 powered by Cummins LTA10 rated at 300hp.
And how about 9100series ? I'm sure there's no such model
in 9300 & STX series.

Re: Crab Steer Steiger
After the buy out between Case and IH, the Case crab
steers were painted red. Then Steiger was purchased and
their tractors were painted red. That became the 9100
series of tractors. No crab steer was needed in the 9100
series because the Case tractors were still being made just
painted red. The 9200 series introduced the two crab steer
tractors because farmers were looking for a new tractor to
trade in for. The tractors sold but not very well. The
sales were not high enough to keep making the tractors and
when the release of the 9300 series came out they dropped
the crab steer models. BUT.....The Quad trac was introduced
not long after that and the Quad tracs now run all over the
hill side country!! There are pics of them running on
hillsides on this website. So with the Quad trac being
made, the crab steer design took the back seat. Hope this
