Huw 282850 264 DB 990 4WD RARE either
This is a rare 990 with what I believe to be a factory
fitted 'seline' 4wd front axle with centre drive
The serial number is 990/a827772/su
engine number 449001 26071

registration number ELF320K
7800 hours.

fitted with DB loader, three lever 12 speed crash box [not
the later two lever synchro which had already started to be
installed in the 995 by this stage] and an assist ram. Also
it has hydro power steering. In working order with a bit of
rot in the metalwork around the windows.
Re: DB 990 4WD RARE
Another with more detail of front axle
Re: DB 990 4WD RARE
Has it got a 3 or a 4 cilinder engine in it?

gr denbute
Re: DB 990 4WD RARE
It has a four cylinder engine not much different from later
tractors up to the last Case 1494 except it has no
turbocharger. Like these later and more powerfull tractors
it has a three bearing crankshaft.

Anyone know any more of the history of this tractor model?
Re: DB 990 4WD RARE
Huw, do you use propane in the cutting torch as well like
me;-) acetyline is very expensive:-(
Re: DB 990 4WD RARE
I don't actually own a gas set and must admit to have never
used one.
Angle grinders are another story ;-)

That David Brown has not been touched as far as I know.
Someone was down from Leominster the other day to look at it
and begged for it not to be sent abroad like so many other
Does anyone know more of the history of this model?
Re: DB 990 4WD RARE
The gas torch is very handy pice of kit! (ideal for cutting
up masseys:-D) I can see that the one in the picture is
used with propane(RED GAS CYLINDER)(it is much cheaper than
acetyline) and also there is no need to pay the expensive
monthly hire for the bottle!!! propane bottle comes free
with the gas!! I dont know much about the 990 but it has
68hp engine (i think) and rotary? injector pump? bigger
1210/1212 have minimec in-line pump and are 72hp. 1410/1412
are turbo and have (i think) 98hp? but it is just the
same engine in all of them with bigger valves, pistons and
stuff, I saw one of these make £6500 in cambridge a few
years ago, so its worth much more by now!!! maybey
£10,000!!!!!! dont paint it!!! or it is worth less (not
Re: DB 990 4WD RARE
I hadn't noticed what gas the lads use I must admit. They
must know what they are doing? At least, they haven't blown
the shed up yet or set it alight.
I have no intension of doing any work on it in the
forseeable future, nor of selling it as it is not mine to
sell, but it would be nice to know the history of the model
if not its value. My friend who does own it also owns a
Ferguson Brown which has a very leaky radiator.
Re: DB 990 4WD RARE
There are 220 four wheel drive 990s built with this selene axle i think i do have the exact amount down some were.later on in production the 990 was fitted with DB front axles and some carraro axls were fitted to export tractors.

there is tought to be only 6 four wheel drive 990s with selene axle in england.:-D

Here is our 1973 1210 with the same type axle.
