GS 283269 308 Planting Corn 2006 either
Planting Corn 2006
The corn planting for 2006 is done again so no I have time
to post some pics. The tractor is a 2001 JD 7210 without
it's loader and still with the duals. 6 psi in the rear
tires and 8 psi in the front. The planter is a 2005 JD 1780
8-row 30". Second year I am planting with it and very happy
with how it works. In total I planted about 350 acres this
year. 30 less than last year because we are growing more
alfalfa. 260 is silage corn and 90 is grain corn.

Re: Planting Corn 2006
The backside. We got the 3 bushel hoppers because we use
poncho on all our corn. Allows me to put at least 24 bads of
corn on it to go for 60+ acres.

De achterkant, in de zaadbakken passen meer dan 3 zakken
zaad dus ik kan genoeg zaad meenemen voor meer dan 24ha.

closer. Dry fertilizer applied in a 2"x2" band.

Dischter bij. Kunstmest wordt 5cm onder en 5cm naar de
zijkant van het zaad geplaatst.

Re: Planting Corn 2006
I never took pics of this last year. This is how we fill the
fertilizer. I just hook the auger on the gravity box into
the planter and watch the whole thing fill itself. Have to
make sure to turn it off on time, smooth off the fertilizer
and put the lids back on.

Even afvlakken en deksels
erop en we gaan weer.

Re: Planting Corn 2006
Nice pics Gerard, i like those planters of John Deere too.
Is this all you will be seeding this year, or do you have to
seed some other crops too?

Re: Planting Corn 2006
Nice pics! What row spacing do you use? Looking at the
picture i'd guess its 30 in.

Re: Planting Corn 2006
The weather has been amazing this spring. We also had 115
acres of alfalfa custom seeded by Claussen Farms, every
thing went into the ground within a week and last night we
got some nice gentle rain, can't ask for better conditions.

This year we have around 360 acres of corn and 280 acres of
alfalfa of which 115 is new seeding.

I don't know why they don't sell JD planters in Europe, I
think they used to, but not many. Around here they are by
far the most popular brand of planter. We don't get all the
European equipment here either, has to do with marketing I
guess. I think most JD planters don't fold up narrow enough
for european roads but I'm sure they could put these row
units on smaller folding frames.

The row width is 30".

Re: Planting Corn 2006
Gerard,

So do you ever shake your head and wonder why more european
equipment is not sold over here? I am sure we would benefit
from it, in one way or another.

Are those JD planters built inhouse, or by Kinze to JD
specs?

Take care,

Will

Re: Planting Corn 2006
It's always better to have more choices, but the support has
to be there too. No point buying european equipment if noone
can service it and the parts have to come from europe each
time you need something.

Deere builds all their own planters. I have seen some
pictures of the factory on agtalk before, but that is a long
time ago.
