Our little pond
Winter 2002-2003 in Belgium
Re: Our little pond
Looks cold, how cold does it get in the winter?
When does spring start? Bill :-)
Re: Our little pond
Yes, I agree it does look cold. Is this a pond or a stream
that is frozen over? Does it stay frozen for most of the

Re: Our little pond
Hello Roy and Bill
It's a pond, not a stream. The pond is used to collect water
from our fields, greenhouses and shed. We (my dad) use the
water to irrigate our chrysanthemums, chicory on the field
and to water the flowers in the greenhouses during the
summer. It's exceptional the pond is frozen over a whole
week. Last week it has frozen all the time, so you could on
the ice. The lowest temperature was -10°C 1 m. above the
ground, but I'm not very sure. Spring starts on the end of
march, then the fields are getting drier.
Hopfully my explication was clear enough, because my English
is not so good.
ps. Bill and Roy, where are you from ?
Re: Our little pond

I live in the midwestern part of USA in south central
Missouri near West Plains, Missouri Sounds intresting, do
you have pictures of flowers and green houses?

Re: Our little pond
BD, we are located in the Eastern Part of Texas,USA
Sounds like your seasons are about the same as ours are
here. We don't have the snow and ice too much. But our
spring planting starts the last of March. Sometime we have
cold in April,is bad on the plants. Your english is fine.
Bill :-D
Re: Our little pond
Here you see our chrysanthemums in August.
I wanted scan some other pictures, but i think the scanner
has broken down.:-( When it is repaired I will post the
other pics.
Re: Our little pond

Where and how do you market your chrysanthemums? Do they
stay close to home or do you ship them long distances? What
do you raise in green houses this time of year?

Re: Our little pond
Some years ago the chrysanthemums were transported to the
Netherlands and Germany, but the last years the price has
fallen down. Now it is to expensive to transport them very
far and in Germany farmers started breeding (correct word?)
chrysanthemums. So in Germany the marked is also full.
Now there are violets in our greenhouses.(photo) You can see
our oldest greenhouse, next year it will be replaiced by a
new one.(i hope) We only have plastic greenhouses. Violets
need no heating in the winter, that's very easy. In March we
put surfinia's, geranium's and other mummer-flowers in our
greenhouses. We sell them in our flowershop/gardencenter.
Now we have chicory, the whole winter. (following photo)
