Re: Bizon Z043 in England
The Z043 was an updated version of the Z040, though some
newer components were used. For example, the driver's
controls were the same as a Z056. It was intended for
export, but only 90 were ever built (5 in 1978, 84 in 1979 &
1 in 1981). Like the Z040, it had 4 staw walkers rather than
the 5 used in the Z050, Z056/7 & Z058. The narrower body
meant that the headlamps had to be lowered to accomodate the
same cab as used on the Z056, Z058 & Z060. A choice of 3
metre or 3.6 metre wide headers was available. This is
interesting for two reasons- the Z040 had a 4.2 metre as
standard (with a 5 metre option) and the Bizon's predecessor
(the Vistula) had a 3.6 metre header. I have only ever seen
three Z043s, all in England. This particular one was based
near Rugby abd was in exceptional condition, having been
kept undercover and cared for by its owner. This and the
next picture were taken a few years ago, while the others
were taken in 2001. I didn't manage to take any pictures of
the third one, which was in a combine scrapyard.
