A brochure of this 51 series John Deeres with South African ADE engine. I do not think there were many John Deeres ever build in the world without JD engines. What do you think ? I owned 2 JD 2651's and a 2351. Very, very good tractors.

Re: John Deere 2651 4WD
I got 10880 hours on one of my JD 2651's before I sold it. The other 2651 got 8750 hours before I sold it with no engine repairs or any other repairs. And they worked in very hard conditions in South Africa( hot and very dusty).

Re: John Deere 2651 4WD
Yes, the 4 cylinder ADE (Atlantis Diesel Engine) was very good in the 51 series JD tractors. Also in many other makes that must have used them because of government regulations.

Re: John Deere 2651 4WD
The 6 cylinder ADE was in my opinion not so good, but not too bad. I had a JD 3141 with the ADE 6.354 engine. It was a difficult starter and in winter very difficult and the starter was giving many problems. Sold it after a few years. But there are still many tractors running with these engines in South Africa.

Re: John Deere 2651 4WD
shold add,the 354 Perkins I-6 is a hard starter unless Komatsu or Cat made some adjustments.
in EU in early 90`s some Komatsu`s had to have something from europe(regulations)so they put in Perkins engines.
but those startet real easy in cold weather, cause they put a cold starting device(bimetal)to the fuel pump.
first the oilsump was to small, but after installing a bigger one, those engines run pretty good.
we had a PC-210 excavator with 18000+hrs.on it:-\

Re: John Deere 2651 4WD
jdeere, very interesting about the oilsump. As I said there are still many ADe 6.354 engines in many different tractors running in South Africa. We can overhaul these engines for not too much money too.

Re: John Deere 2651 4WD
thats why everybody puts them in,not because there good but cheap!
CAT now puchased that factory in GB and its still the same old motor, but starts now easy! funny :-[
but i think they chanced cylinder heads too.
