How do these machines work? Were do they use those huge
blowers for?

As the machines have their own toppers built in, the blowers
get rid of the onion tops.

This machine saves on having a seperate topper going through
the field first, it can all be done in one pass using the
Top Air!

Here in the Netherlands we first need to dry the onions a
week or 2 before loading them up.

Here in Australia, the onions are lifted & left to dry on
top of the ground for 2-3 weeks (depending on the weather).
In normal operations a topper then passes through the field
before the harvester comes through.

With this machine, it tops & harvests at the same time,
eliminating the need for a seperate pass with a tractor &
topper.

I saw these harvesters also in New Zealand, I will translate
it for michiel :-P.

Michiel, ze klappen daar dus niet de uien. Ze rooien ze met
loof en al en laten ze dan een paar weken liggen. Dan worden
ze opgeraapt, in die machine zit een blazer die het loof van
de uien omhoog blaast. Dat omhooggeblazen loof wordt dan
"afgeknipt" dmv een messenbalk. Werkt best mooi, is
misschien nog wel wat voor in Nederland, als we eens een
zomer mooi weer hebben! hahaha
