Re: sunset
hmm sorry to hear about the lack of it. Two years ago we waited till 12th of june for rain bit the bullet and sowed everything and managed to pull off a close to average crop. we are in a early area here in SA. and tend to panic if it doesnt rain by mid may.we have had a reasonable start here but will need follow up rain in the next few weeks as its been 3 now without good rain

Re: sunset
I heard on the ABC Country Hour today Andy that parts of SA are suffering shortages of fertilizer & lengthy delays to get more; has it affected you or others in your area?

Re: sunset
No we havent had problems as we always cart ours late mach into April. We like to Pre drill it all befrore seeding. There were some farmers on eyre peninsula who have only just got their fertilizer and have missed out on taking advantage of the good early break. the price has been a concern too many having to pay 2-300 dollars a tonne more than other years. We were lucky enough to have some cheap stuff not much more in price than last year thanks to our local farm supply dealer who look after loyal customers!;-)

Re: sunset
Thats good. There have been huge price increases in fertilizer, all put down to the big areas of corn being planted in the USA for ethanol production.

Re: sunset
we may look at cutting right back on fertilizer if the price doenst fall back to something reasonable in future years a hard thing to do but margins are getting tight enough now.!

Re: sunset
Yes, it is a catch 22 situation; cant afford to use fertilizer due to the prices but if you cut back too much yields will suffer. Damned if you do & damned if you dont mate.
