Top Poppy Crop 2001/02
Preparation for the Top Poppy Crop of 2001/02.

Deep ripping in preparation for raised bed forming. A bit foggy on the day this was taken.

Re: Top Poppy Crop 2001/02
Unfortunately I didnt get any more shots from this crop (ripening off or harvesting).

It returned nearly $8000 per hectare (gross) to the grower from a 17 hectare (42 acre) paddock; an impressive effort to say the least.

This crop won the grower the award for Top poppy crop in the Northern Midlands, for the season of 2001/02. This grower also won the award the previous season (2000/01) in another paddock & in this particular paddock (back in 1997/98).

Pretty impressive :-)

Another one from before bedforming.

This one shows the paddock being power harrowed, before bedforming.

There was a period of a few weeks between ripping & power harrowing (due to wet weather), so there has been some weed growth (you can see the chopped up brassica weeds).

The tractor & power harrow are off in the distance (top left of the picture); unfortunately I didnt get a close up of them; John Deere 8210 FWA with duals & a Lely 4 metre Roterra.

Another picture, from the northern end of the paddock, showing the graded headland & spoon drain.

The width is important to turn machines (drill, sprayer & harvester).

We did end up cultivating this & sowing it later.

Looking back to the south, along another graded drain.

This was before the bedforming has been done.
