cummins 351419 156 FIRE! either
FIRE!
bush fire started by lighting, this is 100 kms from town when i left town to head to this property there was no sign of smoke about 12 pm, then half way through the drive about 12:30 i saw this, the farmer said that it had only started in the last half hour, started by lightning on the Sunday night, smoldering till the wind picked it up, this is on crown land, so they dont fight tit till it becomes a threat to property.

east of melbourne im guessing from the smoke, my wife's parents live in south gippsland and the smoke down there over xmas was thick as, some mornings when we woke up the smoke was that thick we couldnt see wilsons prom and thats 10 k's as the crow flies and is usually hugely visible
(at last count was roughly 1 million hectares ablaze/burnt out)

Re: FIRE!
The post was made in early December 06 & I have a vague recollection of some fires in WA then. There have been so many (including those ones that you mentioned from Vic, ones here in Tas, NSW & SA) this year, it is dreadful :-{
