Re: who is the pig here ?
Looks like an Asian farmer taking his pigs to market; unfortunately they have no farm subsidies like the rich European farmers and cant afford to have expensive machinery, to run their farms.

Re: who is the pig here ?
This has nothing to do with farm subsidies,

Tascowboy:
1) If we hadn't financial support from the government their would be no farming in Europe, idiot!

2) Leave FP, if you can't say anything useful, and steal pictures from others to post them here...

Re: who is the pig here ?
Rich european farmers? fuck off Cowboy! Farming in europe is bad! The governments can't take away the subsides because the farmers will all go bankrupt, because they Rely too much on the subsidy. thats the only profit they make from farming :-( we buy new machinery because we get 0% finance and second hand would be too expensive. The uk is Not 100% part of the EU , But they still help us to farm! I wish the uk had the euro instead of pounds (And that tony blair was dead).

Re: who is the pig here ?
My, my, some people are touchy! What do they say, where there's smoke, there is fire!

News Flash! Farming exists in Australia with NO SUBSIDIES & has done for a long time, in a climate alot more difficult than Europe (hotter, drier, less rain).

I merely passed a comment on a photo that was posted; it is ok for some of you to make fun of some poor Asian farmer, yet I make a small comment about "rich European farmers" & you abuse me.

If a man were a fisherman, his fishing boat would be overflowing with fish :-P think about that!

I have seen pics of some of the machinery posted on here & in magazines like Farmer's Weekly; machines that farmers own & operate throughout the UK &Western Europe.

Here we could only dream of owning such equipment (it is mainly contractors who buy this expensive machinery & recover their costs by doing work for lots of other farmers).

Re: who is the pig here ?
No factory farms where I live Jonas, only real farms & real farmers.

Mixed farming is the norm (sheep for wool & meat production, beef cattle & irrigated cropping), with some dairy farming. There are some poultry operations (for egg & meat production) which are what we call intensive farming.

However, all of our sheep & cattle are run extensively (outside) 12 months of the year, they are not shut up in barns or sheds during the winter (we have cold winters but we dont have the heavy snow falls that some European countries have).

So your information is wrong, about factory farms in Australia. And it is a lovely place to live as well :-), so you are not correct on this either sorry :-D

You may or may not know it but our countries are closely linked, as many young Australian soldiers fought & died in the fields of Flanders during the First World War. I believe that there are monuments in some of the small villages remembering the brave deeds of these young Aussie Diggers.

Re: who is the pig here ?
Hi

from what I've seen in the world, TasCowboy is pretty much right. I've been to New Zealand, Canada and lately to Ukraine. No where I've seen as much equipment as in Germany. Not only do we ( in Germany ) have more tractors but newer and bigger ones relative to farm size. Fully loaded with every whistle and bell, of course. A lot of places get by with very little equipment. Once you try it you soon realize you should have been doing it long time ago. :-)
Don't know about subsidies. I think we could live without. Sure it would be hard, but not impossible. Just look at what NZ did in the 80's. Most of it is in our heads. If you want to, you can do it. :-) No offense. Just what I think.

BTW: Try to think you're on the internet with everybody watching. So please watch your language and try to have some kind of manners in a discussion.

Re: who is the pig here ?
Cheers for your opinions Martin :-)

I would like to visit your country one day, from what I have heard & read it is a very beautiful one.

However in these troubled times we live in, international travel becomes harder & harder with the passing of time.

Best wishes & Seasons Greetings from Australia :-)

Re: who is the pig here ?
I havent said anything bad against Europe...if saying that European farmers are rich is what you refer to, you must have very thin skin.

I respect European farmers, especially in relation to the outstanding yields (especially in cereal crops) that they achieve. However, I dont agree with subsidies & things such as set aside (paying farmers for not growing crops is wrong in my opinion). Farmers do a wonderful job across the world, regardless of where they farm.

Get over yourself. You have abused me on here three times, yet I have not abused you in return; I have only offered rebuttal to your outrageous claims & allegations.

I think that says it all.
