Poppy crop at green capsule stage, Perth, Tasmania, summer 2003.

Unfortunately the irrigator went astray and has knocked some poppies down beside the irrigator lane.

Another crop at green cap stage, with quite a few flowers still present, Perth, Tasmania, summer 2003.

This is the same crop being harvested in the first 2 shots of my poppy harvester post :-)

Re: Poppy Crop in Tasmania 2
Probably the difference between the machines Michiel is that most of the European machines that I have seen pics of are hard hose or hose reel machines.

Re: Poppy Crop in Tasmania 2
I should have also mentioned that we applied Lontrel herbicide to this type of poppy (thebaine), which removed the seed.

They look more erect / upright than some of the other poppy pics I have posted (this is an effect of the Lontrel application).

Re: Poppy Crop in Tasmania 2
Hi Rhodofarmer :-)

They are grown primarily for pain management medication + the seed is a by product. If you would like to check out some of my other posts under seed drills, field crops & harvesters (other) you can see some of the machines that are used for poppy growing here in Tasmania ;-)

Regards,

TC.
