These onions are growing on raised beds, on another property in the Longford area.

The same crop, a little later on in the season.

There are 4 double rows of onions per beds. The crop density is a little patchy but as you can see, the weed control has been quite successful (this particular paddock was very bad with brassica weeds & fumitory).

These onions are grown for export, mostly to European countries.

Time to get another agronomist or field advisor I think :-)

From my limited experiences in onions, I have been told that they are an easy crop to control weeds in (plenty of herbicide options & opportunities to get the job done right).

Another brown onion crop on a property near Longford, Northern Tasmania, 1999. This crop is being grown under a centre pivot irrigator.
