DON 1500
Finally some pics from my stay in Ukraine in 2006

Here is a series of Don 1500 combines. Manufacturer is Rostelmash. Header size is about 20' or 6m. The crop is some barley that was ripe and didn't get combined. Several weeks of rain followed. Now the remains were taken off.

Re: DON 1500
A some what different way to handle residue. The pipe is for chaff. The chopper opening on the bottom can be closed. So that the straw gets all blown out at the top. A wagon can be trailed behind to gather chaff or chaff and straw. This is used for feed.
The amount of dust is unbelievable. It flies for what feels like forever. At least when your trying to avoid it while taking pictures. :-D

Two of them unloading on to my favourite little truck. Unloading height isn't all that great.

Re: DON 1500
Another one passing on its way to the field. It is equipped with a pickup header. Together with a swather this is a great way to combine fields with high weed pressure. Altough I have seen these combines work on fields where one had a hard time figureing out the kind of crop. :-\
They can chew through unbelievable stuff. The drivers told me that the threshing cylinder is something like 36in (90cm) in diameter. It never stops.

Side / rear view. Shows the hitch for trailing wagons. It is swung away when not in use.

Re: DON 1500
I was over there for 2 month. Spend my time working on a german owned grain farm. It was a great trip and I learned lots. Some things are very different from what I've seen so far.

Still competing with you about most traveling done ;-) . I guess it's gonna take a while. I find it amazing where you have been and worked.

Re: DON 1500
I heard that rostselmas has the most efficient combines in the world.

I saw them on a fair in Serbia two years ago, and all was ok, just one thing bothered me: Why is exhaust so close to the cab?!? The noise must be unbearable...

Re: DON 1500
I guess that they might be in some of those tough Eastern European / Russian conditions, although you would like to think that the mighty Lexion would give them a run for their money :-)

Re: DON 1500
I suppose they thought themselves lucky to have machines to do the job, instead of horses, bullocks or man power ;-)

Have you got some pics from this german farm? Because I think these pics aren't from there.
