Broken Massey!
Broken Massey Ferguson 8130, Longford, Tasmania, September 1999.

This is what happens when there isnt a chassis rail fitted to a tractor with a front linkage carrying an airseeder hoper with 1.5 tonnes of fertilizer.

The drill was loaded & the driver has just driven through a small irrigation channel, to get into the paddock to be sown. Then, she stopped & the oil ran out of the tractor, through the crack in the engine block!

The not too happy driver is on the phone trying to get mechanical assistance!

Re: Broken Massey!
From the other side! Not pretty!

The tractor was rebuilt & fitted with a chassis rail & went on to serve the operator faithfully for a number of years (as seen in some of my poppy drilling posts).

She was later traded (4 years later) on a new 900 series Fendt.

Re: Broken Massey!
No Patrick it was not good at all.

He was advised that he wouldnt need a chassis rail with the extra weight on the front, before he commenced the season but you could say that he got bad advice.

Re: Broken Massey!
No, it wasnt. Had to be twitched together to get it on the low loader, to be taken to the repair man. Insurance & warranty took care of the financial costs, which was good (I wouldnt have liked to have had the bill)

They got it up & running for the start of the harvest season (a couple of months later) & with the chassis rail, he had no more worries with it.

Re: Broken Massey!
There wasnt a chassis rail fitted on the on the in my photos & they seem to think with the extra weight hanging off the front of it, with no reinforcing via the chassis rail, this was bound to happen (hindsight is a wonderful thing, afterwards) :-P
