Peer Review Q&A
This is a thread for any questions about the new Peer Review system that is being built now. If you have questions or comments feel free to leave them here.

The idea of this system is that FP members should have some editorial control over what goes on here at FP. I can't really explain too much about how the system works because I don't really know yet! - It will evolve as I see how people respond to it and how it is used/abused.

It is anonymous so that people can express their true feelings without being bullied or intimidated. But it is also designed to reward those members who used it responsibly and penalize those who don't.

Anyway, use this thread to ask questions or express concerns.

Re: Peer Review Q&A
Why do I have the feeling that 95% of all the Peer reviews are from Tascowboy?

Guy is here for 2 weeks (never seen m before posting?) and already has 800 comments or so and also acting like he runs the show?

Take it easy boy.

Re: Peer Review Q&A
Kevin: I think it will be quickly apparent which members are using the system for petty, selfish, or vindictive reasons. These members will forfeit their review rights so it will be a rather unprofitable sport!

If the system is shown to be contributing to friction amongst members rather than helping then it will be changed or even scrapped completely.

Re: Peer Review Q&A
Stu I've had a look on peer preview and I have given some reactions, but I already saw that the haf on peer preview, are bulshit reactions. Like the "stolen"pictures of google earth, or about somebody who was mad about somebody, because he has stolen his pictures.

And if somebody judge my post to peer preview, can I see that?

Re: Peer Review Q&A
Nald: Yes, there are some reviews that I do not agree with. But that's a good thing! If you look at the reviews that have been made so far you will see that there are basically two types:
1) Those that are unanimous (like for stolen pictures)
2) Those that show a fairly even split (like the google earth pictures)

In the former case the system works well (the stolen pictures will get deleted and the poster penalized). In the latter case I think it also works well (nothing happens because members cannot come to a clear consensus). Note: just because one member starts a review it does not mean that anything will come of it. If nobody agrees with him/her then no action will be taken.

I have also seen some bugs with my programming (duplicate posts) but these will get fixed.

I haven't made it yet, but yes, the original author of a post that is under review will receive email notification of the fact and will be able to respond to the review.

Re: Peer Review Q&A
Ok I hope it will work fine, and that it will be not nessary anymore in a couple of weeks.

If I make a new thread, and somebody reacts to that, get I then an email. Because a year ago I read something about it her in a threat. That you were working about it, or it doens't work. or something like that.

Or I totally misunderstood it:-P

Re: Peer Review Q&A
DJ Moes, why dont you "name names" for those of us, who arent in the Netherlands or Belgium?

Maybe you want these same "good members" from the Netherlands & Belgium to be appointed moderators? Might be a bit like putting the inmates in charge of the asylum, dont you think?

Just because I speak English, dont necessarily assume that I am the only one who disagrees with the guys from the Netherlands & Belgium, or that I am the only one who may or may not participate in the peer review system; it is open to all full Farm Photo members.

Something I would like to see introduced & displayed (& I know it will get shot down in flames, because I suggested it) is the ages of members; that way all members could see for themselves the ages of the other Farm Photo members they are conversing with & it may help enlighten other members as to alot of this "childish"behaviour & aggression that seems to exist on here.

Remove the top text & photo posters counter by all means, I couldn't care less (as I am sure the majority of members couldnt); some members have an unhealthy obsession with how many posts someone has made & sorry to dissapoint you but I am not one of them.

But of course it will be all my fault, as it always is

Alright alright, I'm not gonna run my mouth at you Arcane, but some of these guys on here, good grief they've got issues when it comes to people skills.

I'll admit there's no need to check the "Recent" section on here, one just needs to follow the Cowboy around and he'll be lead to all the hot spots. He seems to have an opinion on everything, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, is it? Now I'll admit, I'm not on this site very much, lack of time. Nor do I follow his posts very closely, there's too many to keep track of, same with jdeere. But from what I've seen, he hasn't been rude to anyone where I'm not tempted to wring their necks myself. :-\

I don't know as he thinks he's running the show around here, but I know his snide remarks are often well warranted. I also know that some of you guys are just plain assholes when it comes to him, and others, and I'd be tempted to tell them off if I had half a minute to waste on their sorry souls. :-\

DJ Moes, I'm terribly sorry for using you as an example but your signature stands out so much, I just couldn't resist. First off you're probably right about people abusing the peer review, but I'm pretty sure overall Stu, or one of his Elite Squad members (moderators :-P ) will have the final say.

Now, as for your signature, I hate to break it to ya bud, but the minute someone excuses themselves for their poor English, I'll take the time to give them a decent response with some thought into it. So you know what Moes? I don't know any dutch, but since so many of these friendly guys on here know both languages and would gladly translate for me, fuck off, okay?

Now go on, flame me, you know you want to.

Re: Peer Review Q&A
Dj moes's signature is just a littlle joke! Something to laugh about. And about TasCowBoy, maybe you shouldn't post everywhere and react to everything just calm down a bit with the posting. And when it is a subject that's written in Dutch and the reactions are in Dutch please don't react.

Re: Peer Review Q&A
I see it this way Ziko,

Why shouldnt ANY member be allowed to comment about ANYTHING that is posted? That is the idea of posting on a site like this isnt it?

It seems to be fine when these guys can dribble on & on in dutch or flemish (attacking other members, in their native tongue or going totally off topic) but heaven forbid if someone else has an opinion that doesnt fit in with them or dares to answer back!

Are you saying that because something is in another language, other members shouldnt pass comment on something that is posted? That is a very "elitist" attitude in my opinion!

On an international site such as this, I find the interaction with other members (whether they be from USA, Turkey, UK, Poland, Holland, Canada, Hungary or wherever) an interesting & important thing; however these guys from Belgium seem to just live in their own little world & dont believe that anyone else is allowed an opinion. If someone comments, they are immediately ganged up on & have to cop abuse & foul language! Check out the posts, there are 5-6 guys who are the main offenders, who surprise, surprise have shown up in the peer review section.

There have been times of late that I have thought to myself "do I really need to be copping all of this abuse & this rubbish I have of copped of late" & have felt like just dissapearing from FP for good. THEN, I think to myself, that I (& all other members out there) have just as much right to be on here as these guys from Belgium or Holland or wherever. Add to this the messages of support I have recieved from other "like minded" FP members & guess what...bad news fellows, because I am sticking around!

Take of this what you may but you have constantly had your say & now I have had mine.

Re: Peer Review Q&A
Hi Stu,

I was very glad when I found this site , because I love the agricultural machines , the farmer life etc.
But now I'm sad , because I read the much people whom quarreling every time .
Every members must respect the other opinion, after all we are a big family on the world, who likes the machines and the farmer life. In my country are many much of the antipathy against the farmers, because of political and other reason . I doesn't like also reading the quarreling this site ...

Best Regards : I. P. / Metlaki :-)

Re: Peer Review Q&A
Well said Metlaki. All this quarreling also makes me sad. I created this site so that farming enthusiasts could make friends, not enemies. :-\

Re: Peer Review Q&A
Josh: No ofcourse that isnt a bad thing all the time. Some people have to keep the spirit alive ;-). But this was not a lot really, it was a flood! A Tazmanian picture and reply tsunami to everyone. And I hate to say it really but it seems like he has the pick on some Dutch and Belgium people. Ok maybe it isnt very nice to post in Dutch here all the time but they are just the biggest groups of people here so you can't do anything against it. You could better let them speak Dutch of they want to then let them translate all in English becouse some people really CAN NOT write it properly.
As said so many times; There is always someone willing to translate if needed.

I don't have anything against Tascowboy and I welcome him as a new? member but going full action, full frontal the moment you arrive is maybe not the best way to express your self.

By the way Stu, the 'send my password' button if you have lost it doesn't work, can you fix this maybe? A good friend of mine lost his password and would like to log in again but he can't. I tried to recover my password to for myself and it wouldn't work here to. Mabe you can look at it?

Re: Peer Review Q&A
Ziko, you're right, and that's why I didn't take offense to it, just stating my opinion on his stance.

Arcane, I'm in full agreement with you lol, and a lot of this is covered right in the FP Code of Conduct which The Cowboy appears to have read, understood, and agrees with.

TasCowboy, I like ya, I truly do, but face it, FP is a rough neighborhood, and it's got its in crowd, and it's respected members. Unfortunately it also has members that people hate with a passion.
Going through the FP Code of Conduct I find three things to address you in the first three issues Stu mentions.

Quote:
FarmPhoto Code of Conduct

FP is a community. Some people have been here for many years. Treat it like you would any other social group - be polite and respect the culture that exists here. The best way to understand appropriate behavior is to 'lurk' for a while before becoming an active posting member.

All FP members are fluent in agricultural photos. They are not necessarily fluent in English. This is an international site and members are welcome to use any language they feel is appropriate. In general, if you want your comments to be understood by the widest cross-section of members you should use English. If you feel your comments are only relevant to members who speak a certain language you are welcome to use that language. Some users consider it good form to automatically provide an English translation of any post they make. This is certainly helpful but not required.

Do not consider your rate of posting as a competition. Aim for quality, not quantity.

The last thing I want you to do is stop posting, all I'm saying is to take it down a notch, not necessarily with your pictures, or even your comments regarding the topic, simply tone it down with your comments regarding the rudeness and the prudeness of everyone else. In time you'll earn some respect, and people may even listen to you when you tell them to stop acting a certain way, but right now you're seen as the new kid on the block that's always hanging around. I appreciate both your pictures and your comments, and I'm not saying I disagree with the things you're pointing out, it's just who's saying it. There's a number of guys on here that could say the same thing, and people would actually listen, or at least be cool about it. Instead, people are getting angry and doing their best to piss you off. Don't let them succeed kay?

Re: Peer Review Q&A
hey josh, i guess you dont get my signature... i always see dutch and belgium people writing in english for people like you, and after that they mostly excuse theirselves for their writings... like they really mean it and want to change that than.... and the next day they go to school and have a view laughs with their friends, not learing much...

and i also are a crappy writer with english... but hell i,m dutch... i know the most dutch words and stuff..... and a little bit english is also handy... but why should i excuse myself if i write crappy english?? thats the idea, not that i,m too lazy to help you out sometimes:-);-)

Re: Peer Review Q&A
DJ. No need to excuse yourself for your English. I'll criticize it only when my Dutch is as good as yours!

But are you trying to give me a headache with that signature? :-\ Each time somebody pulls a stunt like this I get emails from other irate users. Life is short and I'd rather not have to spend time on stuff like this. Please lose the last three words.

Re: Peer Review Q&A
Arcane: I had a look at the retrieve password code and tried it out. It works for me ok. There could be a couple of things going on:
1) You have the wrong email listed?
2) Your ISP thinks the email is spam and deletes it.
3) Other?

I have made it so that you can now view and change your email in your profile (no good reason this wasn't there before, just an oversight on my part :-[). Check it and make sure it is the correct one.

Your friend will have to send me an email (farmphotoATfarmphotoDOTcom) withhis username and I'll dig up his password for him...

Re: Peer Review Q&A
TasCowboy: regarding age of user - yes, I can see that it may be useful to display it but the major problem is that there is no real way to tell if the member has entered a correct date of birth.

Also, while there is a good link between age and maturity it is clearly not a bulletproof relationship and i wouldn't like to see people treated dismissively simply because they are young.

Perhaps I should make it an optional display item.

Cheers Stu, fair enough. Just thought it might be interesting, thats all.

Re: Peer Review Q&A
to display age? that is so stupid.

you can judge somebody on his age, while somebody which is young could be wiser then an older one. the letters who I wrote to gaia in the treath "radio bijna tegen de muur geflikkerd" you can see I use correct answers and arguments

I have the highest education who is avilable in the netherlands, and someone could tell me that I'm not worth arguaing because I'm young? (I have a technical education, that's why I write so badly)

so I think thats a bad idea, you get that bullshit, I'm older so I'm smarter.

because TC is a truck driver, and I will go to university, and he will tell me what to de, just because he's older?
that isn't right
