Re: 2388
Are the stripper headers popular in that part of the world? They use them on mainland Australia for rice but I never think they really caught on.

I think it was the same in the UK (where Shelbourne Reynolds hail from), as they came into being around the same time as the straw burning ban & after a brief period, seemed to all but dissapear.

Re: 2388
back in the 90`s when i was in Vic./NSW most of all grain was stripped, after we cut the straw with a PT-windrower.
seems now they got away from it?

Re: 2388
They tried stripper headers on farms in England. Because they left the straw standing they did not suit farmers who wanted the straw chopped. Staw burning was banned over 10 years ago, the stripper header did not became popular.

Re: 2388
To the best of my knowledge JD most of these grain growers direct harvest, with conventional headers now.

There would be a small percentage of cereal growers who may still swath crops & pick them up with pickup fronts but I think that the rice growers are the major users of stripper fronts.

Canola would be 99% swathed & picked up also.

PS; Like your windrowing pic JD, how did you like driving an old "dingo" (Chamberlain)? Would be a few years since guys in that part of the country have seen crops like that!

Re: 2388
i guess so too,i liket it verry much driving the 80 series Chamberlain.
the cab was nice and cool (not to big windows and the roof spend shade) and a good A/C.
love the sound from the 6 cyl.JD motor and Hi-Lo also from JD.
and of corse good road speed 40 km/h back then besides the
Fendt we had,the only older make in aussie.
a must for a contractor wich go`s as far as 300km`s away.
ones one of the 4080`s caugth fire under the dash we waitet almost 3 months for a other cab, mean while we had a MF 2640 wich only made 25km/h flat out!
what a pain @ 2600rpm :-[

Re: 2388
The stripper headers aren't too popular. The biggest problem is the straw that is left over. Well over half the farm out here are zero til and there is not that many seeders that are able to seed through 50 to 90 bushel/acre straw. However the headers really do an exceptional job of gettting the grain where the crop is lodged and laying flat on the ground.

JCB The grain cart (bin chaser) is an alright unit, except that it is so big, when it is full it doesn't have the proper flotation from the tires and it is very easy to get stuck.
