HMC harvesting fall 2006
here are some earlier promissed pictures of the High Moisture Corn harvest last fall. This was done by Claussens. The equipment used was JD 9760 combine with 8 row snapper head, JD 7920 with Alo 990 and Kinze 400 grain cart, J&M gravity box, Claas 850 Speedstar, and JD 8430 with TSF dumptrailer.

Re: HMC harvesting fall 2006
The harvested corn goes into the gravity box, from here it is augered into the harvester, which then grinds it to almost powder with its optional intestinal pieces and then gets trucked to the farm with the trailer. With this field they only needed on trailer since it is next door practically. The farm is just hiding behind the tractor.

That looks vaguely familiar... how many acres did they do for you?

Re: HMC harvesting fall 2006
Rony, check Gerard's history from this fall, he's got some pictures too.

Franke, is this the first time you've used this set-up? Seems to be very well done, how do you like it? Any more pictures? Particularly the 7920 and 8430? Went for the Deere loader on my 7030, still wondering if I should have gone to the Quicke instead... :-\

Who's 8430 is that?? I thought Claussen's were dead set on trading their Deere's on Fendts over time...

Thanks

Re: HMC harvesting fall 2006
this is not the first time we use this setup. The previous year we did cobmeal, but before that we did high moisture corn as well. No I do not have more pictures. The 8430 was a demo the claussens had for the fall. They traded one Fendt 920 in for 2 new once, and no JD. The JD was still using way too much fuel in comparison to the Fendt's.

Just for Rony's comments. This feed is used for feeding dairy cattle. This HMC is very high in energy so it displaces some of the stuff we have to buy in otherwise.

This 8430 was equipped with the 31MPH IVT tranny, one of the first once around here.

Re: HMC harvesting fall 2006
Franke,
The gravity box feeding into the harvester, is really good idea, I have not seen it before. Very good set of pictures.

Re: HMC harvesting fall 2006
JCB, I think the gravity box is a fairly common thing on the farms in the USA (from pics of actual machines & Ertl models that I have seen) & possible Canada (some of our Canadian friends can probably comment on this).

Re: HMC harvesting fall 2006
gravity boxes are very common around here, but the setup used by the Claussens in not common at all. Most will use a hammer or roller mill. The gravity box in this case is a storage medium. This way they can feed the harvester at maximum capacity. This is also a very large gravity box, most are only capable to haddle around 9 tonnes of product in them.

Franke,
have you got any pics from the gravity box only?
seems to be a real big one :-)

Re: HMC harvesting fall 2006
I just looked it up on the net, they did not have a picture on the site but it is a 725 bushel capacity box. Empty weight is 3540 lbs.

Re: HMC harvesting fall 2006
I know of one gravity box in our area, but it hasn't been used in probably 5 years. Nobody uses them here. How long does it take to roll that corn with the chopper?

Re: HMC harvesting fall 2006
The speed is fairly high. It can keep up quit well with the combine going at max. This means that there is only one trailer that shuttles back and forth between the farm on short distances (<2km). This same operator also runs the chopper. The one who has it the hardest to keep up is the buggy operator.
