Re: piglets
i am using baycox in pump (dosator). the price in croatia is very variable during the year depends of market demands but some average price per year is 1,8 - 2 € per kg (25-28 kg pigs). the highest price in 2006 was been 2,56 €/kg in april , may and june, and the lover was been in october and november 1,48 €/kg. the bigger farmers which have contract with fattening farmers haves fixed price during the year in the average prices. i have only few hogs (6-8) because this is not primary resource and i don't have a contract.the biggest problem is when some eu countries have occur surplus stock and then give big export subvention, like 2004 when austrian export pigs with price about 1,1 € / kg fco croatian farm and our costs is about 0,80 to 1 € / kg. what's the price in belguim and what is minimum hog number for the profitable farming in belgium. regards branko

Re: piglets
we also use the baycox pump system.

So you sell pigs(piglets) at 25-28kg, and then they go to fattening farms or ...?

my parents have about 100 hogs and 800 fattening pigs (so we can almost fatten all the piglets we produce (closed farm))
prices are also very variable during the year : in 2006
fattening pigs: max: 1.25€/kg min: 0.90€/kg
for piglets of +/-25kg I would have to do some research :-P

you have very good prices for you piglets 45€/piglet( at least) of 25kg (last year).
over here for 25kg piglets basic prices were 38€/piglet max.

how are productions in croatia (weaned piglets /hog /year) in belgium an the netherlands ist between 20(at least) and 30 (tops)

best regards from the area with the highest pig population in the world ;-)

Re: piglets
yes i sell the piglets to other farmer which have fattening farm, because i don't have enough food and barn capacity. i don't know exactly piglets / hog / year because i (and other farmers in my area) count piglets / brood and i have for last year aprox.11 per brood (separated) and about 12 born per brood (it's about 24 piglets/hog/year) . the number off piglets is very dependent of farmers care and genetic. in croatia is very small number hog farm with over the 50 hogs (average is under 10) because our agriculture is still in transition and most off our farmers still have mixed farm production (cows+hogs and other combination like goats, poultry or some field crop production ) does you parent's make a calculation which is it's your's costs / kg piglets or fattening pig. my production period is about 70 days from the born day to selling, and mine costs are almost 1 € /kg because i have big input prices regardless i use mostly my own food except soybean and (sorry but i don't know english word so i will write german ) mineralfutter and medicaments.

Re: piglets
i don't know exactly how much 1kg of meat costs for us from a fattening pig but cercainly not 1€ /kg maybe 0.7€ or so but we have to transport the manure (shit) of our pigs because we don't have enough land to spread it on, this also costs a lot of money.
in the winter we make the food for our pigs ourselves (corn cob mix) bun in summer when we are busy on the fiels harvesting vegetables we don't have time for that...
medicaments we buy from our vetrenarian.
the food we normaly buy from a special pig food company.
in the winter we buy the minerals for the corn cobb mix from that same company.

here farms start from about 50 hogs up to 500 (this is still normal) some up to 3000 or 5000 hogs
