Re: Ploughing with a 7820
Super shots :-)

I have seen some of your others that you have posted in the past, also very good & interesting.

What is being ploughed under in these shots? What can you see at the end of the field in the 4th shot (tractor with a trailer?)

I look forward to seeing more of these :-)

Best wishes from down under in Australia,

The Cowboy ;-)

Re: Ploughing with a 7820
It is a tractor and trailer. It's a grass field which has been sprayed off, it also has been spread with both muck and slurry.

Ok, thanks :-)

Re: Ploughing with a 7820
Your plough is just like mine.

The only difference, my plough has shear-bolt protection and your plough has spring break-back.

Nice pictures you have posted. :-)

Re: Ploughing with a 7820
What is the major advantage of the slatted boards?

We dont tend to see them in this part of the world, so was just curious. We also use coulters on our ploughs, on all furrows.

Cheers :-)

Re: Ploughing with a 7820
TC,

You get less sticking to the board, less draft and it breaks the soil up a bit too. :-)

It is a lot better on my soils. I would never buy one without the slatted boards. :-P

Re: Ploughing with a 7820
I guess on some soil types, a good ploughing job with slatted boards could nearly be drilled straight into, without further working?

Re: Ploughing with a 7820
With the slatted boards we usually manage to seed about 75% of the farm straight behind the plough.

JCB 3220. How do you like the plough, you obviously dont have stones like us I wouldnt get very far with the shearbolt protection. What tractor do you use to pull your plough.

Re: Ploughing with a 4755 on Trelleborgs
We pull our 8 furrow with a 4755. Stones are not a problem, we do have some bog-oaks, because a lot of the land is silt-over peat. (the 4755 is tuned to give about 235 hp) :-)

TC, It would be possible to combi drill after the plough.

The plan for Autumn 2007 is to plough, culti-press & combi drill. The soil needs consolidation.

Re: Ploughing with a 7820
F. Baxter, we like the plough very much.

With the clearance it has, it will cope with lots of straw.

Opened right up it will plough over 13 feet each pass, so its quick too. Very good for finishing off. It has furrow openers fitted.

Re: Ploughing with a 7820
Jcb. We're thinking of putting a full width packer/press type thing on the front of our drilling tractor so that we will just plough then combi drill

Re: Combination drilling & full width packing 4m
F Baxter,
Thats what I used to do.
This 4m front packer & combi drill was used from 1986.

The Terra Tires were first added, in 1988.

The red frame at the front was to carry the markers, before we moved to centre line marking. The 3640 turbo, 140 hp.

That looks a nice outfit you used to have. This is what we currently drill with. I think its something with tines and a levelling board that we're looking at.

Re: 4755 plus 4.8m combination
Today I no longer have a tractor with front linkage.

The out-fit I use is the 4755 with 4.8m Accord / Kuhn combination....

In the past I have found cambridge rolling the ploughing works well. To save a power harrow pass, I plan to replace the power harrow (where possible) with the cultipress.

Re: Ploughing with a 7820
You wont be short of power with that on the drill. How many acres do you drill per year.

Re: Ploughing with a 7820
This combi drill is doing about 350 - 400 acres wheat per year.

With my plant company to look after, I like to get drilled up by mid September, if possible.

Re: JD 7600 with front packer & combi drill
After the combi drill was used for a few years on the 3640, a 7600 was bought in 1993

The 7600 did the drilling for about 5 - 6 years.
