I know a guy that built a house inside a hay barn for that reason.

I think it is more to save money.

Building a proper house costs 100.000-200.000 Euro´s.
With this money they can buy now more profitable things.

1 to save money (half the cost)
2 we got to bild a bigger house that way

now the house is 45mx6m ,everything is townstairs (good wen we get older;-)) , every room is south orientated ,son all day long

in belgium you dont get to bild watevher you want at least not any more :-\

hey treurniet. Very smart decision. Some day I would like to build a barn to live in. The good news is you can sleep beside your tractor. My mother decided to build our house with no stairs and smaller 200 m2.
Is your house too cold during winter?

no central heating and isolation (15cm ,walls,floor,sealing)
we dont get hard winters hier -10 for a week mayby 2 weeks tops :-D
