My Old Dodge Ram 2500 in the Snow
After the Blizzard this week the "Old Dodge is buried" I bought this new in 1984. It had a 360cu or 5.9L gas burner. It is definitly an old farm truck!:-D

A 5.9 litre Turbo-Diesel! How much hp does it have? What mileage do you get with a truck like this? In Germany you might find similar engines in high-class SUV´s but probably not in a farm truck. My truck uses a 1.6 litre Diesel :-D

Re: My Old Dodge Ram 2500 in the Snow
Einachser,
I get on average 20mpg. It is a four door with full 8 foot bed and also is a manual 5 speed transmission. Not to bad of milage for a full size truck.:-)
The old Ram gets 10mpg at best. :-( It is a two door with full size bed.:-( It has an 3 speed automatic transmission.

jdeere,
The new Cummins is out now. It is supposed to be quieter also. They are offering a 6 speed automatic this year also.
There is a power race in the states on diesel pickups. Chevy has the Isuzu V-8 Durimax Diesel with Allison 6 speed Automatic.
Ford has now released it's improved 2008 model Navistar (IH) dual turbo diesel with a towing capacity (F450 Pickup) of 20.000#. The HP race is on!;-)
I have to plow more snow this morning. I will try to get it out for more pics.

Michiel Jakobs,
Toyota has come out with their largest pickup in the states yet this year. It has around 11,000# towing. Still behind the big three in towing capacity, but getting closer. No diesel availible yet though.:-( Toyota is making the other guys nervous. They build quality trucks. It is getting interesting.

Thanks,
John

Re: My Old Dodge Ram 2500 in the Snow
20mpg is about 11,5 litres on 100 kilometers if I did the math right.
Really not bad, a lot less than I would have expected.

Isn't it the 6 speed manual tranny? I've driven a couple 3/4 ton dodges with the cummins, but they were all 6 speed, haven't seen one with 5 speed yet.

exactly, the dodges have a lot better fuel mileage the last couple years, they were always known as the trucks with bad fuel mileage, but thats the past. The one i drive every once in a while gets 24-25 mpg on the highway, a lot better than the HEMI's;-)

Re: My Old Dodge Ram 2500 in the Snow
There are some with the 5 speed. Cheeper option. It is a 2003. The six would be nicer to have.;-)
The automatics have had some issues. I have had as high as 22MPG and as low as 17MPG. 6 speed might bump that up a little. Much better than the HEMI.
My old Dodge has the 360cu with a four barrel Carter & Weber Thermal Quad (old school). It was the last year for the carburator I believe. It would smoke the tires and sounded sweet when the quad barrels would kick in. Milage wasn't very good though. :-(
I will get some picks of the interior showing the 5 speed.

jdeere

This is the 5.9L Cummins. It could use a cleaning.:-\

I have an add in Progressive Farmer stating that the 2007 models have the 6.7L. Cummins. It generates 305HP and 610lb-ft of torque. ;-)

The Hemi has 330HP and 375lb-ft of torque. :-D

Re: My Old Dodge Ram 2500 in the Snow
That's wierd. I thought Dodge ended the 5 speed manual in 1999. We have two Cummins diesels, a 99, and 04, they both have the 6 speed standard.

Thats exactly what i thought. With the new 06 and 07 cummins trucks u can only get the 6 speed or the automatic.
