Re: Bull test
Nice photos Marv :-)

What breeds of bull are in the test? I saw a couple of black Angus bulls in one shot but couldnt recognise the other breeds.

What are the tests in aid of? Can you explain a little more about this please? Is it like a sire evaluation type of test?

Regards,

The Cowboy ;-)

Re: Bull test
Any pure bred bull is eligible for the test. They are fed for 3.5 pound a day gain and weighed monthly and individual weight gains compared. At the end of the test a rib eye scan to determine the size of the rib eye is done with a sonogram. Semen test and scrotal size help determine fertility. A PAP test (Pulmonary,Artery,Pressure)is done by inserting a catheter in the jugular vein and threading it through the heart into the pulmonary artery and measuring the pressure to determine if the animal will be susceptible to altitude disease as many of the bulls will be in pastures 7000' and above. Hereford,Red Angus, Black Angus, Simmental, Charolais, Gelbvieh, and Limousin, are all in the test this year. Short horn and and others in the past.
