Is a Catholic celebrating yust like in Rio. But then on a much smaller scale.

I think he lives in a small Catholic community surrounded by Protestants (they both don´t have a problem with that).

Re: Carnavals optocht guttecoven limburg holl
Hello guys:-)!

I don't like carneval, but I am catholic:-D. I live not far away from Paderborn, and Paderborn is a very important catholic city with the highest religious celebrations in Germany, called Libori.

The matter is, in the lent, the 40 days before Easter is was absolut not allowed to eat ham, beef and so on:-(. And also eggs were forbitten:-\. So these days were the last free days to eat what you want! It was celebrated with much fun, jokes and music, because at Ash Wednesday it's all over.

! Carne = flesh !

In the catholic parts the bishops watched out very stricly for the orders of the lent. In the opposition of it the people celebrated carneval very loud and colourful. But in the protestantic lands the lent was not as hard as in the catholic lands, so the carneval isn't so important.

An other reason is the pre-christian religion of southwest Germany and Swisserland. There the celtic people wear very old traditional masks made of wood. And there the carneval is called fastnacht (meening the night before lent). It was the time to make the last fight against the damons of the winter with loud cow bells, horns, drums and other kinds of old instruments to make it easier for the warm weather to come in.

I hope no question about carneval is without an answer:-P.

Greetings - Franz

Let's say iot this way..... carnaval rules:-P
Mark....those wagons aren't always fast ready...I've seen some wagons in witch the builders put a lot of time....some of them start directly after opening the carnavals season at 11-11...

Groete oet Mofert.
