Re: Dairy farm
Thank you for further intresting pics. Those calf huts, are they "Calf-Tel"? I am asking because a friend of mine is the importer of them to Sweden.

Re: Dairy farm
Nice pics :-)

Not a big dairy herd then at 85 cows?

Re: Dairy farm
Lennart: the huts are Agri-plastic I think they're made here in ON

TasCowboy: I think this is average size for Ontario, but not large by any means. We cash crop corn soybeans and wheat on 1300 acres as well as some custom work

Re: Dairy farm
Ok, so you are primarily an arable / cropping farmer then?

Re: Dairy farm
Yup, although up until this past October (grain prices up big time) the cows make all the money

Re: Dairy farm
I guess that is the beauty of having a mixed farm isnt it? Not having all of your eggs in one basket, so to speak :-)

Re: Dairy farm
Nice pics.

But Jesse i got a question about that ford 9030.
What type off transmission is it? Some off them have also a hitch, can u use them also for plouhging? or pulling heavy things, like a wagon full off grain.

Re: Dairy farm
looks like a nice farm. My neighbour was a dairy farmer too, but he just sold his cows, and there is an empty stable now since wednesday.:-(
Hope its going better for you...

Re: Dairy farm
Gert: the 9030 has a hydrostatic transmission...it does have a 3pt hitch that you could plow with it. It really is lacking in power for pulling things like that....the only pulling I ever do with it is hauling round bales. Last summer we demoed a JD 6420....that thing pulled 3 bale wagons instead of 2 (all the 9030 can do) and had power left over. 9030 is supposed to have 100hp. This is the ideal loader tractor, hydrostat, loader with good visibility, but not that good for pulling

Re: Dairy farm
Christoph: In Ontario we have to have quota to ship milk, gaurentees you get a good price for your milk as long as you meet the grade A standards. Historically the dairy farms are in the best financial position compared to the rest of Canadian farms

Re: Dairy farm
Jesse, I read that in Canada, the quota adapts to the national dairy product sales. So do you get notified each year of the amount of milk you are allowed to deliver that year, or how does that work?
Do you have to buy additional quota?

Re: Dairy farm
you can only ship milk in the amount of quota you own. Quota is based on kg of butterfat. last month 1kg cost $30 000cdn you need approx 1kg/cow

Yes the 9030 is the one that followed the versatile 276. we had one before trading on the 9030. the TV140 replaced the 9030, and now they have a TV145.
