Re: 9420 with airseeder
Nice pics Andy :-)

A few questions; what brand of seeder & cultivator is it & how wide does it sow? What crops will you be sowing with it?

Cheers,

TC.

Re: 9420 with airseeder
TC
this is a tricky one to explain ill do my best
the bar and box were designed by a local engineer who is good with that sort of thing. I think he looked over many different models taking good points from all of them with some of his own ideas and came up with this ripper. There a a few floating around here in the district he has made over the years all a similar design.
The box also made on the same principal his ideas along with a lot from the earlier simplicity models.
we sow everything with this wheat, barley, oats, and peas also pre drill all fertiliser.
the bar sows 56 feet. The bigger version of this is 60 feet a bit big for our undulating farm.

Cheers mate :-)

Whatever works I say. If it works for you guys, great stuff. Sometimes a good engineer is a handy bloke to know, especially in farming.

also is built much stronger than some of the flimsy stuff you buy now;-)

Re: 9420 with airseeder
And built for YOUR LOCAL conditions too, which is good.

We have had some trouble here with European gear not built tough enough for our conditions (seeders especially). A little bit of local modification seems to do the trick :-)

andy_D, I burst with envy when I see what a fascinating equipment you have. You must be a lucky man when you can do your work with these machines. :-)

Re: 9420 with airseeder
This is sure big iron! How is it, is any of the big australian tractors still manufactured, i.e. Waltanna, Acremaster, Baldwin etc.?

I'we seen this tractors togheter with this local built airseeders in the Big Iron mowie, it's impressive! :-)

Re: 9420 with airseeder
MB- here in South Australia most farms are 3000-4000 acres
with the small farmers holding around 1000, ours is roughly 6000. so thats why most machinery is soo big here. This one is about the normal size for our district.:-)

Some guys have all the luck :-D. And some - like me - dream of a "real" farm for their whole lives. :-P

TC and Einacher: If the big dream is to drive a big american 4WD, it demands big fields, otherwise the time you have the joy will be too short!;-)

But I agree that quality goes before quantity, but to be competitive today you must have both quantity and quality!

Re: 9420 with airseeder
If we had european like conditions here with quality dirt im sure any farmer on mainlad australia would give anything to farm a small sized farm.
Unfortunly quality dirt is very scarce we all have large holdings of average dirt and probly work no harder than you smaller guys with better quality farms to end up with the same income
i too would give anything to have a slice of some of those thick healthy crops i see in europe on here!!

I thought the YP was always good, we are over in the riverland, pretty shocking at the moment. Had some this week but need lots more.

Re: 9420 with airseeder
the thing with YP is the central part and the bottom end is terrific but the coastal fringes down both sides are very dry we are in a rain shadow here where the rainfall seems to drop one inch a Kilometre
