BART79 399348 305 JD 4440 and 4640 either
JD 4440 and 4640
I posted some of these before but couldn't post all the pics because I hadn't figured out how to make them a smaller file size. I also cropped them to get the tractors in view better. I took these on vacation in the States in June 2005.
This 4440 was discing in Kansas.

Re: JD 4440 and 4640
I've worked with a 4440 and 4640 on a farm in Kansas in 2000.(Pics of these in my posts) They remain my all time favorite tractors I've ever driven. I prefer these older tractors over the modern electronic tractors, I think these are just as comfortable, I find, I get more "feel" with mechanical controls and they are much more reliable.

Re: JD 4440 and 4640
Gilbert,

You probably seen some of these before, but I cropped them and this last one I couldn't post back then because the file was too big. Under JD 4000 series in my posts you'll find some pics of the 4640 I worked with, mowing grass verges.
Some day I'll buy one to play with :-D

Re: JD 4440 and 4640
Last summer I was in Canada, and I worked with a 4840, and, I don´t like JD, but I must say, that tractor isn´t bad at all. Hydraulic works good and the transmission works also pretty good.

Re: JD 4440 and 4640
Nice pictures! We don't see too many of thoose with 2WD, here most 4440 got HFWD, and 4640 was not available with 2WD.

Sometimes I agrre with you, Bart, that the JD's from the 80's has a high comfort, especially if you compare with a lot of other brands from the same time!

Re: JD 4440 and 4640
Yeah I see the 4640 picture before but it's a real nice tractor..:-D Much power with turbo intercooler;-)

the 4640 was avaible with hydrolic front wheel drive but 4840's are only build in 2wd. I'm not sure about it but i think the 4840's are never sold in europe.

Re: JD 4440 and 4640
thats right Gilbert, the 4840 was just to powerfull for the HFWD and a 2WD would not sell anyway in EU.
