Re: Pootgoed laden
@ michiel,

Telen jullie zelf die aardappelen, of zijn die voor een klant?

Re: Pootgoed laden
an Hour later... A Full wagon! We used these 'small' tractors only for driving the wagons on our place. We store the loaded wagons in a open shed untill we need them with planting.

Re: Pootgoed laden
Here I had to arrange some other trailers to make place for the larger ones.

Fendt favorit: Nee we telen ze niet zelf, deze zijn voor klanten of voor ons zelf. Dat weet ik zo niet, ligt eraan wat de klant heeft geregeld enzo.

Re: Pootgoed laden
do u guys cut the potatoes in half?
probably not eh, here in canada they cut every single potato in half before they plant them, so u got twice as many seedpotatoes.

and it works just fine:-)

Re: Pootgoed laden

Re: Pootgoed laden
I don't really know. I think the potato's cannot be stored any longer when they're cutted. Then they dry to much.

Re: Pootgoed laden
You can't cut every size of potatoes.

Re: Pootgoed laden
thats true, thats why they cut them right before they go into the ground.

Re: Pootgoed laden
Rony, I know, but when it suddenly starts to rain or the field appears to be too wet for planting then you've got a problem.

Re: Pootgoed laden
Yea i guess so, we don't really have that problem here too often, we had to stop planting on my first day at my boss' farm, but we went into the field the next day and it was all fine.

When u gotta keep them stored for about a week then they might dry out.

It's probably a bigger risk in Holland than here in Alberta, and humidity in Holland is a lot higher than here.

Re: Pootgoed laden
they only cut the big ones, to save on some seed costs.
and you can cut them a few days ahead of time with no problems, they dry out a little but they grow just fine, weve done it too with some potatoes here.
but we usually plant whole seed potatoes, we like that better

Re: Pootgoed laden
They cut them here too & then they get dusted with a fungicide & cement dust (helps the set / seed piece absorb moisture). Seed potatoes come out of the coolstore a few weeks or so before cutting (allows the tubers to warm up).

I dont think they plant any whole seed here at all. Alot of the seed here is carted in bul moving floor trailers (the same ones used to cart the harvested spuds, at the other end).
