Re: Gleaner R72
Fantastic pictures :-)

I cant believe that a combine can work under these conditions :-P, why werent they harvested earlier? Wouldnt the seed be damaged? It couldnt be really good on the harvester either, could it?

Regards,

TC.

Re: Gleaner R72
The sunflowers weren't harvest earlier because they were not dry enough yet. Usually they get harvest at the end of October. At that time these werent ready yet. It snowed the first of November. By the second week of November it looked like the snow was here to stay for the whole winter. That is when we decided to harvest them. It went really good in the morning when it was still cold (less than minus 10 C) because the snow was not sticky yet. By time I got to the end of the field it was later in the afternoon and it had got a bit warmer, making the snow a bit sticky. This was the first time I ever combined in the snow and I was surprised that the crop still went through the machine fairly easily. Although towards the end it was harder to keep little chunks of ice out of the grain because the snow was stickier and the fan did not blow it off the sieves as easilly. It was probadly a good thing we harvested then because the snow did stay, and hasn't started melting until about 3 weeks ago. Andy is right, you should never underestimate a Gleaner.:-)

I have never seeing nothing like that! Amazing! How many bushells / KG you get from acre/hectare?

This field was about 100 bushels per acre.

Re: Gleaner R72
A guy out here did the same thing except with canola. We had a early snow. He said the same thing with the temperature, it works reasonably well as long as it stays under -10. Luuk how come you don't use pans on your header? You'd probably save a bit of seed that way.

seen it here quite a few times with corn. Mom saw is once in April! You will have losses by that time though.

Re: Gleaner R72
This stuff hapens in Canada, you can harvest anything, al long as the snow is frozen and not sticky, when its frozen its like little beads of plastic going through the combine so its not that hard on it, but if its stick then that gleaner has to work.
