Fly It On!
One of the hard working AirTractors of Shearer Sprayers sits down
at their airstrip east of The Dalles, Oregon to pick up another load.

Re: Fly It On!
The ground crew's transportation out to the strip from The Dalles
parked to the side. Makes for a quick trip to work;-)

Re: Fly It On!
A detail shot of the underside of the plane. Note the air driven pump
& the nozzle boom.

Re: Fly It On!
A little burp of oil to make some smoke for a quick drift check. ;-)
No drift today, so it's time to get some spray on! :-D

Re: Fly It On!
Right down on the deck working on some winter wheat for SRS
Ranches as Mt Hood looks on. Set up in a 'racecoarse' pattern, here
the AirTractor flies the north bound leg.:-P

Re: Fly It On!
Down at the SRS Home Place just east of The Dalles. Some nasty
hills here for the pilots to work around. Here one of them comes in
over last summers wheat stubble headed for the new crop that he
is working on. ;-)

Re: Fly It On!
Just getting to the fence that seperates the stubble from the new crop.
The pilot has just triggered on the spray boom and starts his run up
the canyon. :-D

Re: Fly It On!
A little closer look. Notice the GPS antenna just aft of the pilot and
the 'lightbar' for the pilots guidence out on the nose. ;-)

Re: Fly It On!
Another tight fit on SRS Ranches, one that we call 'Pinch Gut' beccause it gets so narrow. It's just off of US 197 between The
Dalles and Dufur, Oregon. Here one of the planes drops in to start
his run. :-D

Re: Fly It On!
Back for another pass. This south bound leg is pretty nasty.....the
north bound return leg is a milk run over some pretty flat ground. ;-)
Traffic on US 197 in the background get a free air show. :-)

Re: Fly It On!
An even better look than the one noted above of the GPS receiver &
the pilots light bar out on the nose. Settleing in for another run up
'Pinch Gut'

Re: Fly It On!
A good close look as he settles in for his final pass up the canyon.
Note the box on the right wing. This is the flag dispenser that was used to mark the planes swath before the advent of the GPS based
system. It is still carried as a backup system, and also a way to
leave a mark for us earth bound farmers to say " Yup, got that field
done already" :-D

Re: Fly It On!
Headed for the Barn! My parter in crime at SRS Ranches Dave Wilson
(at the back of the truck) and myself pay a visit to the strip just as one
of the planes is leaving for the The Dalles and a little hanger time.Once
in the air, he couldn't help giving us a little end of the day fly-by :-D

Re: Fly It On!
Very nice pictures!

Here in Sweden spraying from aircraft were used back in the 60's and 70's, but to day environmental care and regulations has resulted in that nobody does this work anymore.
