Farmer 280 spraying
When the corn was planted there were already a lot of weeds coming up, so it was decided to spray all the fields with Glyphosat before the corn comes up.
The Holder sprayer with a 15 metre boom holds 850 litres and the additional tank in front holds 650 litres. We use 200 litres of water/hectare.

Re: Farmer 280 spraying
Running with the hood open, because the engine was overheating again. Didn´t have much of an effect, though:-\

Re: Farmer 280 spraying
Aircooled isn't it? Maybe he can't get enough air for his turbine because of the yellow tank? Or take the high pressure cleaner. My dad told me his Deutz sucked in a lot of dust too and he had to clean it out once and a while.

Re: Farmer 280 spraying
I guess it has a lot to do with the construction of the tractor. The fuel, air compressor, battery, and alternator are located right in front of the engine so it has to suck most of the air through the little holes on the side of the hood, as opposed to Deutz tractors with the same engine.
Also the hood right above the engine is insulated to keep the heat and noise away from the driver.
Of course cleaning the engine helps and it was the first thing we did after finishing this field but I guess the cooling system on this tractor is just not very efficient.

Re: Farmer 280 spraying
My dad his Deutz DX110 had problems with that too. But these are very compact tractors... I guess they had to use every spot:-\

Re: Farmer 280 spraying
Great photos :-)

Dont you use a pre-emergent herbicide like Atrazine?

Here a good product for pre-emergent weed control in corn is Primextra Gold (by Syngenta) (370g/L atrazine / 290g/L S-metolachlor)

Cheers,

TC :-)

@ TC: as far as I know Atrazine is not allowed in Germany- don't know why.

Re: Farmer 280 spraying
Ok, thanks Krebs. It is one of those chemicals that seems to end up in waterways & streams, so maybe that is why it is banned (I guess it will end up the same here but thankfully, we dont have the degree of red tape & over regulation that Europeans have to deal with , at the moment).

I guess we will catch up in years to come.

Re: Farmer 280 spraying
TC and others; As Atrazine is often found in fresh water wells it is forbidden since many years here in Sweden. Atrazin was used on roads and other hard areas and then it is not strange that it comes to the water. As I understand it is forbidden today in the whole European Union.

Yes Lennart they have had trouble here with it getting into water courses too (used alot in forestry operations here in Tassie).

Re: Farmer 280 spraying
@TC: What would be the difference, when using Atrazine instead of Glyphosate?

Re: Farmer 280 spraying
Hi Einachser,

Atrazine gives residual weed control, where Glyphosate doesnt (it only kills what it comes into contact with, at the time of spraying) ;-)
