Tasmanian Crops 2007
Hello all,

Here are some photos that I took of various crops grown in my local area, in Tasmania, during February, March, April & May 2007. The quality is not as good as I would like (taken on my old trusty non digital camera) but I hope that you enjoy them.

The first one is of a maize crop, on a property at Cressy;

Another one of the crop, showing a closer view of the maize itself.

I will geocode these photos shortly too :-)

Re: Tasmanian Crops 2007
Another close up of the maize.

It was being trialled on this particular property this season, as it is not a traditional crop grown in my area. The farm manager told me that they planned to make silage from it, to either sell or feed to their own beef herd.

Another of the same crop. It was so dry that the grass had to be irrigated up.

Windrowed linseed crop, Longford, Tasmania.

This crop was pretty sparce (thin) & quite weedy, so couldnt be direct harvested (which is the normal method of hravesting linseed).

A closer shot of the linseed in the swath.

This linseed is destined for the bakery trade.

Re: Tasmanian Crops 2007
And another.

You can see here it is very thin (was sown late & grown dryland, in a very dry season).

Another of the Lucerne. You can see some flowers on it, if you look closely.

Re: Tasmanian Crops 2007
Thanks Andy :-)

Yes, it stood out like chalk & cheese this year, irrigated versus dryland.

I look forward to seeing your pea crop pics ;-)

Re: Tasmanian Crops 2007
Nice photos TC! Was the corn irrigated also? What type of yields did you get?

Re: Tasmanian Crops 2007
Thanks :-)

Yes it was & grown in rich alluvial black river flats.

I will have to check up with the manager from this farm, next time I am talking to him, re the yields (I havent seen the crop since these pics were taken).

Re: Tasmanian Crops 2007
Good job, TC! If you look at the geocode satellite picture of the maize in the beginning and zoom out a little, is it then circles from center pivot irrigation?
