MB 1600
This one's for MB 1600 and Ziko.:-) This is one of my dad's Benz'. As you can see it's got the reverse console. Supposedly there were only about 6 or 7 1600's that ever made it to Australia. He also has a 1500 in the shed with a sore stomach (gearbox):-(

Hi Colin, I think you wanted to address this to Ziko and me (MB trac 1800 and not 1600 :-D).
But as I own a very nice 1600 this is ok for me.
Thanks for the pic. Please give us more of MB trac in Australia.

Re: MB 1600
Sorry MB 1800, I do apologise. Ziko, I only seem to have prints and I don't have a scanner but I'll get more sometime. Hey, do either of you know if the driveline of this tractor is capable of handling around 240 hp? I'd love to see it working with the Disco 8500 in reverse mode. We've thought about putting a Unimog motor in it.

Re: MB 1600
I know the following:
1. Mercedes built tracs with about 200 hp for experimental purposes
2. There's an MB trac 2400 intercooler in Germany
3. Many 1800 intercoolers have more than 180 hp anyway ;-)
4. Of course it is possible to put the OM 366 LA of an Unimog into an MB trac
BUT:
I would never give a warranty for such a conversion and I think nobody would. :-\

It should be possible as the driveline of a trac is constructed for even more torque than the driveline of an Unimog which is rather constructed for speed.
But as I said above: This is just a guess.

Re: MB 1600
jdeere, we ran this setup for three seasons before the arrival of the J.C.B 434. This worked really well but my dad was complaining about having to clutch too much. The only tractor to replace the Benz would be the Xerion but we couldn't justify the cost of one.
Nils, yes this is twin trac as you called it.

Re: MB 1600
They are all expensive... If you compare it today, The difference of price in % between Fendt, JD, NH, ... is becoming smaller and smaller

Re: MB 1600
thats right, just figured that the big Valmet vs.926 is the same price.

Re: MB 1600
Yeah sure they all do the reverse drive thing but you don't get the same room as the MB or the Xerion in the cab or equal 4wd which is the key to a good job and even better would be the Xerion's crab steer.

Re: MB 1600
A Doppstadt trac!:-P To bad they don't make those anymore. But for reverse driving, I'd go for the Claas. Looks Schlüterlike to me:-D
