Verticutting greens on the golfcourse
Here a Kubota ST30 is verticutting a green on the golfcourse in Geijsteren. It works very good here on the green to keep an open sod.

Re: Verticutting greens on the golfcourse
This is the larger Kubota, a new version of the L4200 which is been replaced a few months ago. The Amazone machine is a rotar mower for heavy grass but it can also suck up mowed grass because of the wind thats beeing created by the rotorblades inside.
With this machine we don't enter the greens, but we blow the remaining pieces of sand and grass from the green with a two cilinder 2 stroke handblower.
In front you can see a so called 'bunker'.

The driver on the ST30 is driving further than only the green, he also takes the green surroundings with it because they are also mowed very short and frequent.

Re: Verticutting greens on the golfcourse
And this is how the green looks like after beeing verticut.
After verticutting it we use to mow it so take remaining grass and unsmoothness out.

I found some text about verticutting greens:

Why do we top dress?
Without regular top dressing greens will develop a thick thatch layer, and become "puffy" at the surface. This will not allow for adequate water penetration to the root zone and can promote disease level as well as poor plant health. By going through the process of verticutting (or aerifying) the green surface and then sanding it we can prevent/reduce any thatch build up and keep the greens as healthy as possible. The sanding process also help to smooth and heal any imperfections in the green's surface.

Interesante machine's.

Re: Verticutting greens on the golfcourse

Here a closeup of the remaining cutting marks. Understand the grass here is only 4,5mm high!

Here you see 2 black Raven flying by.. With their bill's (mouth of the bird) they can cause huge destruction to the greens and fairways on their search for food like worms called: Amphimallon solstitialis ( I couldn't find the easy name in English )

Re: Verticutting greens on the golfcourse
Here Cor is rolling the greens with a mower from which we switched the mow units to the vibrating rollers. This happens after mowing the greens.
This is not a daily work, it only happens if the greens are soft and the balls don't roll far enough. We have a special method for it. The term to make clear how good the ball rolls is called Stimp (and than a number from 1-10)

Mooie foto's.

Re: Verticutting greens on the golfcourse
Here a Jacobsen fairway mower is incoming. It's hard to catch him on photo because he can drive rather fast. Once a year we hire a second fairway mower with 7 mow units instead of 5. We than hire it for 3 weeks.

The rear view. Inside there is a Kubota engine.. I think it's a 3 cilinder liquid cooled.
