Yikes! I heard about this happening with maize silage sometimes:-\

alot of farmers over here only have one big silo and put 2 or 3 cuts of grass in it. if the second cut of grass is wet it will slide forward. 4 years ago it sild forward and we put 40 acres of grass in the crack:-D

Maybe it wasn't properly packed in the first place.

What size of tractor do you use for packing the haylage?

This must be a big loss of quality for your haylage.

Why don't you use an upright silo? Can't be cost.

If you ask me unless you have more than 300-400 cows, you are better off storing haylage in an upright silo. Just my opinion.

Erh Spout you should have buried that Richard fella in the gap whilst you had the chance. I hope he drives tractors better than he does carts cause he keeps ramming folks off the track!
