Round baler burnt out
Two hours ago we saw black smoke in the sky - it was this round baler burning. When I passed on the nearby road the whole baler and tractor was burned out!

Re: Round baler burnt out
It is a Welger RP 520, the same type as we had before the change and a MF in front, it belongs to a contractor in our area and he has many MF's and I cant see of the rests which MF it is.

Re: Round baler burnt out
Just an MF?:-\ It should have been no tractor or baler.

Re: Round baler burnt out
@fendtuur; even if I can't speak English I maybe understand your point - why he didn't detatch the baler - I also wonder, maybe the fire was so fast that he didn't have any chance to take away the drawbar bolt? Or, maybe the fire started in the tractor, and spread to the baler through the straw?

Re: Round baler burnt out
That`s pretty bad if thats happened. u can stop baling and if u have bad luck u got rain in the swath :-(

Re: Round baler burnt out
It usually happens so fast that sometimes it isnt possible to unhitch the tractor.

I know of a couple of instances here where balers burnt; luckily in one case, the operator unhitched the drawbar pin & pto shaft then drove off (ripping the hydraulic couplings out of their outlets, saving his tractor.

In the other instance, the operator wasnt so lucky & lost his tractor & baler.

No matter what brand of machine, it is a tragedy when something like this happens IMO,

Regards,

TC ;-)

Re: Round baler burnt out
Had that happen to me back in about 1988 A bearing went out on my Vermeer baler. I was able to eject the bale before the belts burned completely up. A few new belts and a bearing and I was back in business. To bad about this farmers bad luck.

Re: Round baler burnt out
I hope that his insurance covers all of his loss.

Shit happens unfortunately in all families.

Took this photo of an 8760, thank god somebody left a good clue behind to identify this tractor.

Re: Round baler burnt out
That's what scares me about our new baler, it doesn't have a pin, it has two double-nutted bolts. Disconnecting requires 4 wrenches and about 10 minutes --- when it's not on fire!

Btw, our baler is a Hesston big square.

Re: Round baler burnt out
Jdeere, no, model 4790 with accumulator.

The 4760 is the 3x3, and the the 4910 is the 4x4. The 4790(3x4) and 4910 share much of the same parts, only difference is in the height of the bale chamber. The 4760 is kind of off on it's own, the baby. :-)

Re: Round baler burnt out
I found this picture on a free to use web-site posted by "Emil from Getinge" of this round baler taken nearer from the other side - not anything left!

I've heard that the drawbar bolt was stuck because the support leg takes time to lower, so the driver had to fetch a hammer from the tool box and when he came back the swath had caught fire, so he had to get away to avoid burning injuries.

Re: Round baler burnt out
The driver obviously wasnt paying attention. The bearing went.It usually smokes for 2 or 3 minutes before catching fire!P.S If it ever happens to you Just pull out the drawbar pin.Dont disconnect the pto shaft! The joint connecting to the tractor is worth around a 1000 euro.

No drop the hitch down and pull out the pins that attach the hitch to the tractor!
