Mike R 474653 104 How to fold a planter either
How to fold a planter
Thought some of you guys out in Europe and other parts of the world would like to know how some of our bigger planters in North America fold up out here. This is an older John Deere Max Emerge 2 planter with dry and liquid fertilizer hooked to a JD 4450. This field was planted inot Organic corn for a customer

Re: How to fold a planter
THe locks are located just in front of the wheels, the are spring loaded, just take a flick of a handle to set.

Re: How to fold a planter
Michael, excellent photos and explanation!! in such a small country as mine those planters are never seen. I really like your slogan. Can you tell me please what treatment receives the organic corn?

Cool idea for a thread Michael. Sometimes what is mundane and 'every day' for some members is actually very unusual and interesting for other members.

Good work Michael :-)

The 4450 was one of the best JD's built IMHO, I know a contractor here who had a pair of them that just kept going & going, 20,000 + hours without alot of hassles mechanically wise.

Re: How to fold a planter
they are good indee,we had two on a feedlot with FEL's and PS,just great.(back then 1990)
Michael, this one must be a late model, guess a 1988,cause it has the JD front axle already instead of the ZF.

they had a ZF front axle? They'd better put that on the 7000 series instead of what they did now:-\

Re: How to fold a planter
1983 until 87 the 50 series had the ZF,wich was good, but then they built there owen, wich was not the greatest.
on road driving they had there problems with the steering nuckles and rods. :-(
this 4250 is equipped with the ZF.

Re: How to fold a planter
Yes ours 7600 has also had some problems with his frontaxle.
Bearings... steeringpistons and nuckles. And I don't know if it's normal but sometimes when we plow one wheel just stops, and the other turns faster. Doesn't it need to block both wheels?
